Responsibilities
This employment opportunity is restricted to Nunavut Inuit who reside in Rankin Inlet only.
Reporting to the Sr. Finance Officer, the Sr. Finance Clerk will provide accounts payable, accounts receivable and revenue services, including data entry, verification, reconciliation, investigation, correction, reporting, assigned administrative services and advice to clients in accordance with financial and other applicable legislation, policies, procedures, processes and collective agreements, to ensure accurate and timely processing of records and effective client services, in accordance with the financial goals and objectives of the Government of Nunavut. This position impacts the timeliness, verification, correction and accuracy of accounts payable, accounts receivable and revenue information and reports.
The key responsibilities of the Sr. Finance Clerk includes providing input to procedures, controls and tools governing accounting operations and other assigned services, process a variety of accounts payable and accounts receivable, such as revenue bills, invoices, account statements, payroll, purchase orders, cheques, other financial information such as travel documents, verify the accuracy of calculations, coding, supporting documents, investigate and resolve issues, enter data from source documents into the FreeBalance database, reconcile and balance general ledger accounts, review and verify transactional documentation, follow up on outstanding invoices, maintain an assigned financial control documents/databases, including financial signing authority, provide other services such as travel arrangements and provide advice and coaching to new work staff.
Qualifications
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a high school diploma. Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in a computerized environment. Experience in providing client services. The ability to communicate in two or more of the official languages is an asset.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
