The French power market is undergoing a fundamental transformation as it moves to decarbonise its economy through electrification and growth in low carbon generation sources such as renewables, nuclear and hydrogen. This transition has profound implications for utilities, project developers, investors and supply chain companies – in terms of the financial returns for existing assets, as prospects for new investment. The market is constantly evolving through policy and regulatory reforms as well as the emergence of new business models.  

Aurora has developed a market leading suite of research services which provide analytics and insights to players across the French and wider European power market – helping to shine a light on developments across the power market and industry. We provide insights on the development of the French power market and implications for a range of power assets, as well as for policy and strategy. Many companies access our services, representing the vast majority of existing generation capacity in the market and projects in development. 

The role holder will play a critical role in delivering analysis and projects, as well as client engagement – conducting novel analyses, identifying client needs, and continuously enhancing the service we provide. You will develop data-driven strategic insights into the energy transition for both public and private sector clients; and work with colleagues and clients at all levels of seniority to enhance clients’ decision making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop timely and rigorous quantitative analyses to enhance clients’ decision-making
  • Work closely with our modelling team, structuring economic problems into quantifiable analyses and deriving insights from the model results
  • Contribute to Aurora’s product development, by identifying new opportunities and expanding our capabilities
  • Engage with clients to thoroughly understand their requirements and delivery project scopes
  • Communicate findings to clients

What we are looking for

Required attributes:
  • A university degree in either: 
  1. a quantitative subject, coupled with a keen interest in policy developments 
  2. a social science, environmental studies or a related field, coupled with an interest in quantitative analysis 
  • An ability to analyse, interpret, and derive insight from complex quantitative data and information
  • An ability to communicate and collaborate with both technically and non-technically minded parties
  • Self-starter, entrepreneurial mind-set, and desire to grow the business
  • Demonstrated success in project management (e.g., at university) preferred 
  • Strong interest in energy markets and and associated policy frameworks, previous professional or academic exposure to energy beneficia
  • Full professional fluency in English and French
Desirable attributes:
  • Existing knowledge of the French power market and energy markets in general
  • Competence in advanced data analytics (e.g. Python, Advanced Excel)
  • Relevant Master’s degree or PhD
