About the Role

 

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of Compliance professionals providing Compliance enabling support and risk mitigation advisory to various Swiss Re entities across APAC.  We are looking for a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Head Compliance ANZ based in Sydney.  The successful candidate will directly report to the Head of Compliance APAC and closely interact with other Compliance colleagues to manage Compliance Risks in Australia & New Zealand (ANZ).  The key objective of this role is to support the Compliance leadership in the identification, management and control of Compliance Risks and execution of the Company's Compliance Strategy. The Opportunity:

 

  • Partner with Compliance colleagues in developing, managing and executing the Compliance Strategy and Plan in ANZ in alignment with the Group Compliance Program
  • Promote and drive a strong Compliance and Integrity culture in ANZ and throughout the region
  • Manage monitoring of regulatory developments to ensure all regulatory requirements are known, are adhered to and associated risks are adequately mitigated
  • Provide the business and other internal stakeholders with enabling support and advisory in managing Compliance risks and support them in implementing Compliance related procedures, leveraging relevant subject matter expertise
  • Participate in various Governance and Risk committee meetings to ensure effective governance and control frameworks are in place and the risks are effectively mitigated
  • Conduct Compliance Risk Assessments to identify inherent Compliance risks and assess mitigating controls within the business
  • Develop and deliver tailored Compliance training, awareness and communications to ensure internal knowledge is kept up to date with the changing regulatory requirements and the company's Compliance Policies and Standards
  • Ensure alignment between Group Compliance Policies and Standards and local regulatory requirements, including ongoing oversight and maintenance of local Compliance policies and procedures
  • Provide regular Compliance reporting to senior management and committees internally and regulatory authorities externally as appropriate.
  • Perform the role of registered Compliance Officer for Swiss Re's regulated entities in Australia & New Zealand, as mandated by relevant legislation/regulations
  • Perform the role of Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) for Swiss Re's regulated entity in ANZ

 

 

This role is the accountable person for the Financial Accountability Regime, and includes the corresponding requirements:

 

  • Capability to act as an Accountable Person under FAR for Compliance, Breach Reporting, AML, and Whistleblowing, including signing an Accountability Statement and maintaining “reasonable steps” evidence.
  • Deep knowledge of regulatory frameworks (ASIC, APRA, AUSTRAC) and compliance programs, breach reporting obligations (RG 78), AML/CTF requirements, and whistleblowing frameworks.
  • Strong governance skills, with the ability to oversee second-line compliance activities and engage openly and constructively with regulators, as needed.
  • Fit & Proper and Financial Accountability Regime (FAR) readiness, including meeting the relevant APRA standards.
  • As a key member of the ANZ FAR Office, contribute in the coordination of Accountable Person registrations and updates, and managing notifiable events in line with APRA/ASIC FAR obligations.

 

 

About the Team

 

The Compliance APAC team consists of professionals based in various locations across APAC who are passionate about delivering outstanding enabling and risk mitigation support to internal stakeholders to ensure business is conducted in a compliant and ethical manner. You will work closely with these colleagues and have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across other regions as part of a global division.

 

 

About You

 

  • University or equivalent qualification
  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience in Compliance, risk management, audit or related areas for insurance or financial institutions
  • Strong knowledge in regulatory requirements/topics in various Compliance subjects and understanding of risk management programs
  • Proven experience and ability to work effectively with regulators
  • Excellent decision making, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong leadership, organizational and time management skills 
  • Team player with strong communication, interpersonal and cross-cultural skills.
  • Great energy, capable of adopting multiple roles and managing multiple tasks, simultaneously
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Experience in an international environment is a plus
