Position Duties

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Under supervision, design and/or secure computer databases to store, track, and maintain a large volume of critical business information. Assists with routine database tasks to include backups/restores, queries, providing support to users, data security, and reporting services.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Developing and maintaining databases.
  • Ensuring data security.
  • Tuning performance.
  • Database Backup and Recovery.
  • Conducting regular audits of the database systems.
  • Software Installation and Maintenance.
  • Authentication.
  • Capacity Planning.
  • Deploying, configuring, and maintaining virtual server instances in cloud environments.
  • Work with developers to design and implement new features and troubleshoot any issues.
  • Providing technical support to the end-users and other IT staff regarding database issues.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - (Database Administrator 1 (ITP030) - $50,982.94 - $63,351.55) 

Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college or university OR Three years of software applications experience designing, testing, and coding applications of related databases.

OR

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - (Database Administrator 2 (ITP031) - $56,310.72 - $70,677.24) 

Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Two years of experience in support of an operating system, database management system or a related field OR Two years of experience at the lower-level Database Administrator 1 (ITP030) or position equivalent.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
In addition, to the minimum qualifications, preference will be given to applicants with two (2) or more of the following: 
  • Current state of Georgia employee
  • SQL certification
  • Experience working with SQL 2016 and later versions to include querying,
  • database optimization, managing database security, and some knowledge of testing and coding
  • applications.
  • One or more years of experience with installation, configuration, and management of Windows virtual servers using Hyper-V and experience working with SANs.
  • Knowledge of data replication and data replication processes.
  • One or more years of experience with Active Directory user/computer management.
  • Two or more years of customer service and IT service desk software experience.
  • Hands-on/practical experience deploying, configuring, and maintaining virtual server instances in cloud environments.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The incumbent will occasionally be required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop and kneel. Occasionally light lifting/or moving boxes or supplies may be required. 


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position requires the incumbent to work in an office setting which includes shared office space with other employees


NOTE: This position may require some travel and operating a state vehicle. A valid Georgia driver’s license is required.
