WECU is seeking a Director, Retail Operations to join our Operations department located in Bellingham, WA. The Director, Retail Operations is responsible for the overall administration of Retail operations including oversight of Retail Support, Quality Control, Retail Banking Equipment, and Document Management. Drives WECU’s Retail strategy by ensuring Retail has the proper foundation and support upon which to operate and serve members. As a Director at WECU, this leader understands and advocates for WECU's mission, strategy, and services, and for WECU as an employer of choice. 
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in developing and executing Retail’s annual strategic plans and prepares department budget(s) to accomplish objectives. Maintains control over departmental expenditures to adhere to budget.
  • Oversees team functions while providing expertise and support to all aspects of Retail operations and ensures strong partnerships across the organization.
  • Directs daily operations activities in a manner that provides quality service to members and potential members. May delegate portion of responsibilities when necessary, but may not delegate overall responsibility for results nor any portion of accountability. 
  • Mindful of strategic initiatives when making decisions, possesses the knowledge and capability to lead and support areas of responsibility. 
  • Leads the process improvement directive for Retail. Reviews work processes and systems to reduce duplication of effort and unnecessary work.
  • Leads and/or provides input into operational and organizational projects, ensuring outcomes benefit all parties and are in alignment with CU goals, policies and procedures.
  • Partners with Compliance on all audit related activities, including gathering and deciphering needed requests for information. 
  • Oversees Retail’s testing and validation for all upgrades and process improvement initiatives related to WECUs various operating systems (DNA, Jira, OnBase, etc.). 
  • Partners with Directors of Retail Experience in transitioning branches through remodels and de novo locations. Creates and maintains a coherent strategy and resources to ensure consistency and thoroughness of the process.
  • Responsible for strategy and innovation regarding retail banking equipment such as ATMs, Cash Recyclers (TCRs) and t-Magic. Makes recommendations for additional technology that will benefit WECU. 
  • Manages multiple vendor relationships and service agreements, holds vendors accountable for their actions, and performs detailed responsibilities as noted in board-approved Vendor Management Program.
  • Develops and guides teams to ensure efficiency in processes and procedures in accordance with CU policies and procedures.
  • Ensures staff are well trained and have the support they need to perform their duties; regularly coaches staff to meet the expectations of their role and deliver the highest quality of member service.
  • Remains current on changes within the legal, regulatory, economic competitive and technology environments which may affect the Credit Union’s operations. Ensures processes, procedures and internal controls are in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Facilitates consistent communication, as well as department meetings, to disseminate pertinent information and discuss operations methods and opportunities.
  • Maintains organizational structure established by Senior Leadership.  Organizes subordinate personnel into effective, efficient work groups. Ensures direct reports are granted proper authority and responsibility to carry out assigned functions. 
  • Direct responsibility for supervisory functions including hires, terminations, promotions, transfers, policies for department personnel. Conduct all personnel functions in accordance with applicable statutes (e.g., EEO, OSHA, FLSA, etc.) 
  • Other duties may be assigned.  

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred
  • Five or more years of progressive retail/consumer banking experience, including consumer lending, business development, and branch management
  • Five or more years of experience managing multiple departments
  • Ability to represent the credit union in a positive, professional manner in person, on the telephone and in written correspondence.
  • Ability to maintain strict level of confidentiality and security in sensitive areas.
  • Flexibility and capacity to manage many responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, initiative, and tact in dealing with membership, management, and staff.
  • Ability to organize projects, prioritize workflow, and complete multiple tasks simultaneously and accurately.
  • Ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing, and work well with others in a variety of capacities
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to supervise and motivate employees to ensure efficient workflow. A high level of interpersonal skills necessary to represent the credit union in a positive fashion when dealing with member and staff transactions.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle staff performance issues.
  • Must have the ability to interpret and explain credit union policies and transactions posted to members’ accounts. Must adhere to credit union policies and procedures.

COMPENSATION: 

The salary range for thisposition is from $106,042 to $149,707 per year.
