Job Summary

We are seeking a per diem Medical Assistant to work 5-10 hours a month at our community health events!

This Medical Assistant will provide support for the Heart Health and Wellness Council programs in all of Newton Wellesley’s service communities. Assisting with health screenings that include blood pressure, blood glucose, A1C, cholesterol, and body composition as well as being responsible for calibrating A1C and Cholestech machines, Track machine cartridge expiration dates and screening supplies.

Join our dynamic team working with the Heart Health and Wellness Council to drive engaging prevention programs in our communities. In this impactful role, you'll work with a passionate team to deliver innovative heart health and wellness programming to diverse audiences including firefighters, seniors, and community members. You'll help promote heart-healthy nutrition, exercise, and stress reduction through evidence-based approaches.

Responsibilities include:

· Operate A1C and cholesterol machines and provide finger sticks to program participants
· Follow all safety protocols for screenings provided, including maintaining sharps containers
· Trouble shoot error codes on machines
· Perform blood pressure screenings, analyze body composition with Omron machine, and measure waist circumferences
· Provide feedback on screening flow and recommendations for increased efficiency
• Technical expertise: Independently prepares the machines, supplies and equipment required for screenings
• Ensures that all equipment is present and in optimal operating condition for screenings
• Performs technical skills completely and efficiently ensuring patient safety, comfort, and privacy
• Ensures that equipment and supply levels are sufficient to ensure that all program procedures can be performed as scheduled. Proactively orders supplies, working with Cardiac Rehab Manager
• Proactively alerts Cardiac Rehab Manager of needs related to equipment (new purchases, replacements and repairs)
• Responsible resource use: Maintain cost effective use of supplies, equipment, time and other resources. Communicates needs for equipment and medical supply order/repair, and order items as needed, ensuring budget is followed. Proactively identify opportunities for efficiencies or cost savings.
• Documentation: Independently maintains all necessary logs and records per established standards of care and compliance readiness. Facilitates and participates in the Universal Precautions.


 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Completion of a certification program as a Medical Assistant.
  • High School Diploma or equivelent required

Experience:

  • 1 year experience as a Medical Assistant or other comparable experience at minimum preferred. Experience working with Cholestech and A1C machines preferred.

Certification/Training:

  • CPR training required
