About the Division: Facilities Maintenance Services provide proactive maintenance, make repairs, coordinate renovations, and incorporate life-cycle management for all City facilities. As a Building Maintenance Specialist you will work alongside other maintenance professionals to ensure the City buildings are maintained to high level.General Description: The Building Maintenance Specialist performs responsible skilled work in the maintenance, repair, modification, installation and construction of buildings and facilities; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.

Position Duties
Performing building maintenance and repair work; remodeling buildings; performing preventative maintenance tasks.

- Assists with electrical, carpentry, plumbing, lighting, masonry and related building maintenance work.
- Assists with building rooms and additions and remodeling existing rooms/buildings.
- Picks up and delivers materials to job site.
- Unstops commodes; repairs leaks; changes wax seals, flush valves and vacuum breaker.
- Changes light bulbs.
- Cleans and changes filters; checks belts on motors.
- Moves office furniture, computer paper; helps install computer wire.
- Performs related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina.
Other Qualifications
Some knowledge of the common practices, tools and terminology used in repairing and maintaining buildings; some knowledge of the use and characteristics of common building materials; general knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with the work; skill in the use of tools and equipment; ability to work from sketches, drawings, plans or specifications; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
