About the Department

The Prince George’s County Planning Department of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is seeking an experienced and highly motivated IT/Telecom Support Specialist III to join our team. The Department provides land use planning for the physical development of Prince George’s County, Maryland. As the second most populous county in Maryland, Prince George’s has a population of approximately 900,000 residents and is home to The University of Maryland at College Park, National Harbor, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, and Joint Base Andrews.  

Under general direction, this individual will provide expert level technical knowledge to support the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of a 250-user department-wide network, including servers, SAN, and virtualization technology, and special application software, including document imaging software. The IT/Telecom Support Specialist III will also be required to monitor technology trends and make recommendations on incorporating new technology into the department's existing platforms. 

The candidate must possess good written and verbal skills and have experience in providing user support in an IT environment.  

As an IT/Telecom Support Specialist III on the Network Technology Team, your work will be a key component in assisting the group’s support of IT programs, systems, internal and external users. Focusing on Network Cloud Infrastructure, systems and application administration including but not limited to Zscaler, Microsoft Azure, Solarwinds SIEM, O365, ManageEngine, PDQ, SharePoint. The incumbent will also be able to perform other duties as assigned.

Position Duties

The Cloud & Network Infrastructure Technology Specialist plays a key role in supporting, maintaining, and optimizing both on-premise and cloud-based IT infrastructure. This role combines traditional networking expertise with modern cloud technologies to ensure secure, reliable, and scalable systems across the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain and support enterprise network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points.
  • Assist in planning, design, and migration of on-premise network drives to a cloud based environment.  
  • Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot cloud-based networking and security platforms such as Zscaler, Microsoft Azure, or AWS.
  • Administer cloud storage solutions and ensure secure, efficient data access across platforms.
  • Support hybrid cloud environments by managing both virtualized servers and on-premise equipment.
  • Provide day-to-day operational support for server administration, including patching, backups, and performance monitoring.
  • Assist in planning and deploying network upgrades, wireless infrastructure improvements, and security enhancements.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to enforce access policies, zero-trust models, and cloud security configurations.
  • Troubleshoot connectivity issues across LAN/WAN, VPNs, cloud platforms, and mobile endpoints.
  • Document procedures, diagrams, and network configurations for reference and compliance.
  • Maintain high standards of customer service and responsiveness to IT support requests related to infrastructure.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in network administration or infrastructure support
  • Experience with Zscaler, Azure, Amazon Web Services, or other cloud environments and networking/security tools
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and wireless networking
  • Familiarity with cloud storage platforms (OneDrive, SharePoint, AWS S3, etc.)
  • Proficiency with Windows Server administration and virtualization (e.g., Hyper-V, VMware)
  • Understanding of zero-trust security models and cloud access controls
  • Excellent troubleshooting and documentation skills
  • Relevant certifications preferred (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, Microsoft AZ-104, Zscaler ZCCA)

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience supporting hybrid workforce environments
  • Exposure to automation tools (PowerShell, Terraform, etc.)
  • Strong communication and cross-team collaboration skills
  • Passion for learning and keeping up with evolving cloud technologies

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Management Systems, or any related field.
  2. Five (5) years of experience in information technology support functions.
  3. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total seven (7) years.
  4. Depending upon area of assignment, a valid driver’s license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.
  5. Pass Commission medical examination.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office setting.  Work involves walking, standing, bending, crouching, and may carry equipment and supplies up to 49 pounds.  

Work must be performed accurately and may require occasional overtime, after-hours, weekend or on-call work.

The M-NCPPC offers a competitive salary range of $73,523 to $132,614 (salary is commensurate with education and experience) at the IT/Telecom Support Specialist III level with excellent benefits including generous leave, extensive health coverage, deferred compensation plan, and employee pension plan. 

The Prince George’s County Planning Department is conveniently located in Largo, Maryland, near Metro and I-495.
