Company Overview

At Forge Biologics, we believe in turning bold ideas into life-changing realities. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to enable access to life-changing gene therapies and help bring them from idea into reality. We partner with scientists, physicians, biotech and pharma innovators, and patient communities — all united by one goal: improving lives. If you’re driven by purpose and excited to make a tangible impact, this is where your journey begins.

Our team works out of The Hearth, a state-of-the-art, 200,000-square-foot cGMP facility in Columbus, Ohio. Here, you won’t just watch innovation happen — you’ll be part of it. Whether you’re scaling AAV manufacturing, collaborating on cutting-edge therapies, or supporting complex technical projects, you’ll play a key role in bringing hope to patients with genetic diseases.

About the Role

As a Technical Writer, you will play a key role in developing clear, accurate, and well-organized documentation to support the Technical Operations teams at our Columbus facility.

In this cross-functional role, you’ll partner with subject matter experts and fellow technical writers to create critical procedural documents that are both effective and compliant—ensuring alignment with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), regulatory standards (e.g., FDA), and internal quality requirements.

What You'll Do

  • Write, edit, and maintain a variety of technical documents, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions (WIs), and batch records.
  • Organize and streamline written procedures and forms to improve usability and comprehension.
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather detailed technical information through interviews and hands-on observation.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, accessible content tailored to specific audiences and applications.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to gain a comprehensive understanding of the company's manufacturing processes, technologies, and products.
  • Review and revise documents for grammatical accuracy, technical precision, regulatory compliance, and consistency with internal quality standards.
  • Maintain consistent formatting, structure, terminology, and tone across all document types in accordance with established templates and style guidelines.
  • Identify redundancies, content gaps, and inconsistencies in documentation—proposing improvements based on research and SME input.
  • Enhance documentation with visual aids, such as photographs, diagrams, process flows, charts, maps, and other illustrations, to clarify complex procedures.
  • Track documentation throughout its lifecycle, facilitating collaboration among applicable departments regarding ongoing document projects.
  • Study and interpret drawings, specifications, mockups, and product samples to accurately develop procedures for relevant production methods and technologies.
  • Extract key information from manufacturer manuals, trade catalogs, and other resources to support operational and maintenance documentation for onsite equipment.
  • Communicate with external stakeholders, such as client representatives, vendors, and publishers, to validate and clarify technical content when necessary.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant writing, scientific, or technical field (e.g., English, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Pharmaceutical Science), or equivalent experience.
  • 0–2 years of experience in technical writing or a related role, with demonstrated skills in writing, copy editing, and formatting documents—particularly with scientific or technical content.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and user-friendly content.
  • Self-driven and highly motivated, capable of working independently while effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment—adapting quickly to evolving priorities and timelines.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to balance immediate demands with long-term project goals.
  • Strong attention to detail paired with an inquisitive, knowledge-seeking mindset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), with the ability to quickly learn new software and tools.
  • Familiarity with document management systems, such as Veeva Vault, is a plus.
  • Experience with photo-editing software and diagramming tools is desirable but not required.
  • Ability to work onsite 3-4 days/week on average.
