POSITION PURPOSE: Plans, coordinates, implements and administers programs for school age groups from preschool age up through primary school age.  The Recreation Coordinator will support the overall goals and objectives determined by the Executive Director and the Recreation Services Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, organizes and delivers programming, including traditional youth enrichment, summer camps, and after-school program across various facilities in the district, including the Apex Center, Fitzmorris Elementary School and Secrest Recreation Center.
  • Serve as the on-site Director for a licensed after-school program and summer camp program in compliance with Colorado state licensing rules and state health department regulations.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all children in the program, while maintaining staff to child ratios.
  • Transport participants from designated schools to the program facility using a district vehicle (15-passenger or smaller).
  • Assists in selecting, training, supervising, and coordinating the schedules of part-time and volunteer instructors, camp personnel, and staff support.
  • Maintain attendance records, incident reports, ePACT profiles and check-in and out sheets, and other required documentation.
  • Build strong relationships with parents, school staff, and community partners.
  • Serves in an outreach position to promote youth programs and services at schools and youth groups district wide.

OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Attends Division meetings and other District meetings as required by the Recreation Manager, including assignments unrelated to Licensed programs. 
  • Attends training and other professional development opportunities as approved by the Recreation Manager.
  • Displays excellent customer service, provides leadership/support, resolves concerns, problems, conflicts, and supports aquatics and facility staff with emergencies.
  • Supports the management team with budget preparation and monitors the budget. 
  • Support marketing and outreach efforts to promote preschool enrollment and community awareness.
  • Approves staff timecards in accordance with Payroll’s guidelines.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES: Responsible for the supervision of over 20 part-time employees, including day camp directors, camp leads, camp counselors, and youth enrichment staff.

Position Duties

  • Must be at least 21 years old. 
  • Knowledge of computers and programs for creating programs such as youth enrichment and camps. 
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn any other district software programs.
  • Possesses strong customer service and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to be flexible, work independently and as a team member, and to assume responsibility for task initiative and completion.
  • Working knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and office equipment.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with other divisions, Board members, outside agencies, and the general public.
  • Ability to analyze situations thoroughly, identify problems, and find effective solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Parks and Recreation or related field and two years of related experience. Combination of education and experience may be considered. 
  • Meet Director Qualifications as defined by Colorado Child Care Licensing. 
  • Current CPR/First Aid, and AED certifications, Standard Precautions, and Mandatory Reporter certifications or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to pass required background checks, including fingerprints through CBI/FBI and Trails. 
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License with a clean driving record and the ability to operate district vehicles.

Other Qualifications

While performing the duties of this job, work is performed indoors and outdoors in various parks and recreation facilities. The noise level may be moderate to loud, with occasional elevated levels and vibrations. The employee may occasionally encounter fumes, odors, and dust. Sometimes, the employee must work outside or drive in varying temperatures and conditions. 

Physical Abilities: Ability to be seated or standing at a workstation for most (4+ hours) of a workday. Must be able to move and lift equipment as needed.
Travel: Light travel throughout the district may be necessary.
