Position Summary 

Performs work of a general custodial nature to keep the campus neat, clean, and sanitary. Performs campus safety checks, and reports and/or corrects fire, safety and health hazards.   Assists building maintenance staff with large projects and assists others, including students, staff and faculty members, as needed.

 

Position Duties

Primary Responsibilities 

  1.  

Custodial / Cleaning

  • Evaluation and assessment of cleaning needs of each building 
  • Clean offices, classrooms, student use areas, staff rooms, kitchens, conference rooms, walkways, and restrooms
  • Ensure each building has current Safety Data Sheets (SDS) per OSHA regulations 
  • Support urgent employee and student requests 
  • Actively support and participate in large facilities project work

1. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education – A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Experience – A minimum of three years maintenance custodian experience, including one year experience performing custodial duties in a commercial building, is required.

 Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted:  accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.


 Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience which ensures the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute for the requirement(s). Please see our Applicant Guide for more information on education/experience equivalency guidelines. 

2. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree, custodial training certificate, forklift operator's certificate preferred.
3. 

Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Core Competencies) 

  • Knowledge – Custodial equipment and supplies; basic hand and power tool use; institutional cleaning practices; computer use.
  • Skills – Computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite; skill in operating and maintaining tools and equipment; verbal and written communication skills.
  • Abilities – Identify tasks to be completed; read instructions; physically lift heavy items; work any shift at any location throughout the RCC District. Must be adaptable as work load and duties can change with very little notice. Pass a pre-employment work capacity evaluation, criminal background check, and drug screen test.

Other Requirements 

  • For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30-days of employment, and maintenance of an acceptable driving record are required.

  • This position functions as an in-person work arrangement, working on-campus with either a set schedule or flexibility depending on operational needs.

Physical Demands

The physical demands listed below represent those that must be met by an incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with qualified disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Manual dexterity and coordination are required for about half of the daily work period (about 50%) which is spent sitting or standing while operating hand or power tools, heavy machinery, equipment, computer keyboard, and standard office equipment.  While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility including the ability to lift and/or move materials up to 60 lbs. daily, and over 60 lbs. occasionally.  This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities.

Working Conditions

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is primarily working indoors and is frequently subject to fumes, chemicals, dust, and excess noise.     Where appropriate, personal protective equipment will be issued and the employee will be trained.

Other Qualifications

This is a Full-time Classified, 40 hour per week (100%) position in the Facilities Management, Planning & Construction department. Starting compensation is entry level for Group 4 on the 2025-26 Classified Wage Schedule.

Position will remain open internally to current Classified employees through 9/5/2025

Public Service Loan Forgiveness

Rogue Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan. Questions regarding your loan eligibility should be directed to your loan servicer or to the US Department of Education.
