Position Description:
The Director of Manufacturing Engineering will lead the development, optimization, and execution of manufacturing engineering strategies that support LayerZero’s growth and commitment to world-class quality. This role is responsible for driving process innovation, implementing lean manufacturing principles, and ensuring operational excellence across all manufacturing operations. The Director will serve as a key technical leader, partnering with cross-functional teams to enhance safety, quality, cost, and delivery performance.
Requirements
Primary Duties:
- Lead and develop the Manufacturing Engineering team, providing technical direction, mentorship, and career development.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing processes, including lean manufacturing, automation, and advanced production technologies.
- Oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of production systems, equipment, and tooling to ensure efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
- Partner with Product Development and Operations to ensure seamless new product introductions (NPI) and design-for-manufacturability (DFM).
- Establish and maintain manufacturing standards, work instructions, and best practices to ensure safety, quality, and compliance.
- Lead root-cause analysis and corrective action efforts for manufacturing issues, ensuring long-term process stability.
- Manage capital equipment projects, including justification, acquisition, installation, and validation.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain and Quality to improve supplier capabilities, reduce costs, and optimize material flow.
- Own key performance indicators (KPIs) for manufacturing engineering, including productivity, yield, cost, and lead-time improvements.
- Champion a culture of innovation, problem-solving, and accountability within the engineering and operations teams.
Experience & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (Master’s preferred).
- 10+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong background in electrical equipment manufacturing or related industries preferred.
- Proven track record implementing lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and process automation initiatives.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing complex projects from concept to implementation.
- Strong technical knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment design, and production systems.
- Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
