About the Department
The successful candidate will embody the Department's mission and vision as well as the qualities of a "Five Tool Player" - Leader, Thinker, Communicator, Operator and Public Servant - and the principles of the City's Customer Service Philosophy – Empathy, Respect, and Problem Solving.
This position is grant funded. While this position will work alongside the City of Ontario, it is NOT considered a City of Ontario position. Therefore, the successful incumbents will not be considered City employees and are not eligible for any City sponsored benefits. In lieu of City sponsored benefits, successful incumbents are eligible for a program-funded benefit package that includes healthcare, childcare (space is limited), and mileage reimbursement for the duration of their assignment. An Education Award (valued up to $10,000) is awarded to those incumbents who successfully complete all required service hours.

Position Duties
The job duties typically performed by the Promise Scholars Advisor include the following:
- Assist with coordination and planning of enriching, in-person and virtual college visits to local community colleges for 5th graders and universities for 8th graders.
- Serve as a representative of Promise Scholars at school and community-wide events.
- Assist with delivery and support of 6th grade career day presentations with local business leaders.
- Coordinate, deliver, and support 9th grade career exploration activities for Promise Scholars high school sites.
- Provide services in person and virtually to students via text, e-mail, Zoom or other relevant software.
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for Promise Scholars events as needed.
- Conduct meetings, workshops, presentations, tutorials and coaching sessions for high school and college students and their guardians in person and virtually to reinforce critical milestones in postsecondary access and success.
- Support and assist students and families with college applications and financial aid completion.
- Record and track student engagement and milestones leading to college enrollment.
- Assist with updating and creating social media content with provided training.
- Attend and conduct outreach at various Promise Scholars special events.
- Help develop in-person and virtual programming as needed, including but not limited to, texting campaigns, workshops, and tracking of student metrics.
- Collaborate with other Ontario Promise Corps sites and respective members.
- Attend all AmeriCorps development training.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Associate's Degree or equivalent.
Experience
Previous experience in youth, service, K-16 education, or non-profit work.
Desirable
Bilingual in Spanish.
Special Requirements
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must have reliable transportation and be able and willing to travel locally as needed.
Must be able and willing to work full-time (approximately 40 hours per week), for the duration of the program beginning in November 2025 and ending in September 2026.
Must complete a minimum of 1,700 hours throughout the service period.
Must be able and willing to work evenings and weekends when required.
Must be prepared and able to work on-site and/or virtually from home as required.
Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance as required by the AmeriCorps program.
Must follow City of Ontario and AmeriCorps code of conduct and policies.
NOTE: Candidates must demonstrate the ability to successfully complete a Live Scan fingerprint review coordinated by the City of Ontario in addition to the pre-employment process required by Ontario Promise Corps. (This will require two separate Live Scan fingerprint appointments.)
