INTRODUCTION:
The Recreation Program promotes healthy lifestyles, cultural connections, and positive youth development through structured and open activities and events. The Recreation Center Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Siletz Recreation Center. This position ensures a safe, welcoming environment for community members of all ages and helps organize and implement recreation, sports, and wellness activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Staff, monitor, clean, and maintain the Siletz Recreation Center per scheduled shifts.
 - Greet and assist visitors, provide program information, and help maintain a safe environment.
 - Support implementation of sports leagues, youth events, cultural nights, open gym hours, and community wellness activities.
 - Monitor recreation center equipment and facilities, reporting issues or hazards to supervisor.
 - Assist with recordkeeping for attendance, participation, and facility usage.
 - Set up and take down equipment for daily programs and special events.
 - Work cooperatively with other departments, volunteers, and community members to support recreation goals.
 
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or GED.
Knowledge of:
- Recreational programming for youth and families.
 - Health and wellness practices.
 - Cultural sensitivity and the importance of community-based services for Native Americans.
 
Ability to:
- Work a flexible schedule, including evenings and/or weekends.
 - Interact effectively with youth, elders, and families in a respectful and supportive manner.
 - Plan and lead recreational activities (sports, games, arts and crafts, etc.).
 - Maintain professional boundaries and exercise sound judgment in handling minor behavioral issues or conflicts.
 - Communicate clearly and respectfully with participants, families, and staff.
 - Provide excellent customer service to community members.
 
Other:
- Current First Aid/CPR certification or obtain within 15 days of hire.
 - Must complete any required safety or recreation center operations training within 60 days of hire.
 - Valid Oregon driver’s license and insurable driving record preferred.
