Essential Functions and Objectives
- Encourages and supports student achievement through Positive Behavior supports and Restorative Practices
- Reinforces lessons presented by teachers by reviewing material with students one-on-one or in small groups
- Teaches or co-teaches lessons as appropriate
- Assists teachers with recordkeeping, such as tracking attendance and calculating grades
- Actively supervises students in class, between classes, during lunch and recess, and on field trips
- Collaborates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to address and support students' behavioral and academic needs; and coordinate instructional efforts.
- Attends Professional Development and perform other duties as assigned
- Provides evidence of highly qualified status for teaching assistant at DLS/ DPS
- Acts as a guest teacher for other classroom teachers, teaching assistants or other staff as needed
- Engages as a positive member of a vibrant international school community and culture
- Treats students and staff with respect, fairness, and kindness
- Ensures that the target language is used by students in the classroom 100% of the time
Requirements
Denver Language School (DLS) is a public, tuition-free language immersion charter school located in East Denver. DLS provides an innovative academic program to reach the highest levels of student achievement through comprehensive language immersion education in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. DLS offers traditional learning activities in the target language, making the language both the medium and the object of instruction.
Full-Time, Temporary Elementary Teaching Assistant Job Description
Denver Language School is seeking one individual to provide support to our Middle School Spanish program during the 2025-2026 School Year. This position is slated to end on June 5th 2026, pending review of the school’s needs. The role is eligible for health, dental, and vision insurance subsidized by Denver Language School. It is also eligible for short term disability insurance and term life insurance at no cost to the employee.
Qualifications
- Experience with children in grades K-5
- Fluent in target language
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Spanish, or related field preferred
- Preference will be given to candidates who have passed the Elementary PLACE or Praxis test
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to stand and walk while teaching, escorting classes, and supervising
- May be needed to lift up to 20 lb
- Routinely spend extended amounts of time outdoors during arrival, dismissal, and recess
Annual Salary: $33,830 per year (this annual salary will be prorated based on actual number of days worked during the temporary assignment)
