Surgical Transporter
Job Summary:
The Surgical Transporter is responsible for safely transporting patients to and from the operating room (OR) and other surgical areas within the facility. This includes ensuring they are properly positioned for transport and monitoring their safety during the process. The Surgical Transporter plays a crucial role in the smooth operation of the surgical team, helping to ensure timely, organized, and safe transport of patients.
Schedule: 7a-3:30p
Monday- Thursday with occasional Friday
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Transport
Transport patients to and from the operating room, recovery room, and other designated surgical areas in a timely and safe manner.
Ensure the patient's comfort and safety during the transport process.
Position patients properly on transport carts stretchers.
Monitor the patient's condition during transport, reporting any changes or concerns to nursing staff or surgical team members.
2. Pre-Operative Support
Assist in preparing patients for surgery, including ensuring that they are correctly dressed in surgical attire (e.g., gown, surgical hat).
Provide assistance to the clinical staff in positioning patients for surgical procedures as needed.
Clean and disinfect stretchers and patient care areas as needed.
3. Post-Operative Transport
Safely transport patients to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) or recovery area following surgery.
Ensure the patient is comfortable and stable during post-operative transport and report any complications immediately.
Communicate with nursing and medical staff regarding any observations during transport.
4. Equipment Management
Ensure that necessary equipment, such as IV poles, oxygen tanks, and monitoring devices, accompany patients during transport.
Assist with setting up equipment in the OR and recovery areas as needed.
Ensure that stretchers and other equipment are cleaned and properly maintained.
Coordination with Surgical Team:
Collaborate with nursing, surgical, and anesthesia teams to ensure that patients are transported according to surgical schedules.
Communicate effectively with team members regarding patient needs, schedules, and any relevant medical information.
Documentation and Patient Records:
Accurately document patient transport details, including the time of transport, destination, and any notable observations during transport.
5. Safety and Infection Control
Follow facility protocols for infection prevention and control during patient transport, including proper sanitization of transport equipment and hand hygiene.
Adhere to safety guidelines regarding patient transport and ensure a safe environment for both patients and staff.

6. Emergency Procedures
Respond to emergencies quickly, including transporting patients in critical condition to appropriate departments.
Be trained to handle emergency situations, including CPR or other first aid if needed.
Skills and Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Previous experience in patient transport, healthcare settings, or related roles is preferred. Experience in a surgical environment is a plus.
Certifications: CPR and first aid certification are often required.
Skills:
Strong understanding of patient safety, comfort, and proper lifting/transport techniques.
Excellent communication skills, especially for interacting with patients, families, and medical staff.
Ability to handle stressful or emergency situations calmly and efficiently.
Basic knowledge of medical equipment and understanding of patient care procedures.
