Job purpose

The Buyer Planner plays a critical role, being responsible for planning and buying services, parts and materials across multiple product lines and commodities in a primarily medical devices environment. The focus is the execution of day-to-day procurement and purchasing needs with a high level of efficiency and effectiveness.

Ensuring continuous production operations through timely delivery to meet customer requirements, while managing costs are key to success

Monitoring MRP and electronic orders in real-time, taking necessary actions to prevent delays and manage pricing with suppliers is critical. This role is also responsible for managing stocked inventory levels to meet working capital targets and for the implementation of strategic sourcing initiatives across a portfolio of products and commodities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Procurement and Purchasing

· Utilizes MRP systems, reporting, and other databases to analyze unit requirements for shop orders, component costs, and the forecasting of future component usage.

· Determines the need for expediting shipments; following up on late orders and monitoring delivery performance by taking corrective actions as needed.

· Monitors materials, parts and services procured throughout the supply chain, resolving transportation and border issues with freight and parcel partners.

· Owns various component product categories and the streamlining of current purchasing and planning processes with the end goal of systems management efficiency. 

Planning and Scheduling

· Executes purchase orders in a timely manner according to forecasts, lead times, production scheduling, and customer timelines.

· Ensures systematic parameters relevant to MRP are maintained across all levels; raw material level, to finished good level.

· Collaborate with sales and production teams to develop forecast needs that meet customer requirements.

· Maintains adequate levels of finished goods, sub-assemblies, and raw material inventories while managing inventory investments to forecasts.

Inventory Management

· Assists with physical inventory cycle count program and systematic reconciliation.

· Maintains inventory classification and cycle count program parameters.

· Forecasts inventory purchasing needs to facilitate cash flow and balance sheet forecasting.

Sourcing

· Understands material and parts drawings/specifications to relay accurate requirements to suppliers and negotiate cost effective production strategies.

· Ensures supplier certifications on file are up to date and accurate

· Supports new product development through sourcing efforts to identifying and assigning new and alternate suppliers through ASL finalization.

· Resolves accounting discrepancies and facilitates supplier returns and/or material quality rejections.

· Cross functional coordination with engineering, sales, operations, finance and quality to meet customer demands, facilitating changes, and sourcing new development projects.

· Manage supplier relationships by analyzing scorecard performance, negotiating payment terms, resourcing existing products, and vetting new suppliers.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, logistics or a related field preferred

· 4+ years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.

· Practical knowledge of lean purchasing strategies and material planning processes

· Material requirements planning (MRP) system and ERP purchasing/planning system proficiency

· Thorough knowledge of purchasing/planning terminology and practices

· Experience with Macola Progression or an equivalent ERP system and medical device experience preferred

Working conditions

The work environment is mainly in an office setting. Production floor visits as necessary to communicate with shipping/receiving and production.  

Physical requirements

Minimal physical effort is required. Work is mostly sedentary but does require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 10 lbs.
