POSITION SUMMARY:
The Early Head Start Teacher is under the supervision of the Site Supervisor. Employee is responsible for developing and implementing curriculum and classroom instruction in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards. EHS Teacher is responsible for maintaining files documenting services provided to Early Head Start children and Families. Will follow Yurok Tribe Personnel and other Policies, applicable State and Federal regulations and standards, Community Care Licensing Regulations Title XXII, and Head Start, Early Head Start and Childcare mission, goals, and policies.
Position Duties
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum.
2. Utilize Yurok tribal traditions, practices, and/or resources to provide a culturally relevant program.
3. Work closely with all program staff to provide an integrated program to infants and toddlers and families that include all required components of the Head Start standards.
4. Create a warm, accepting, and developmentally appropriate environment which encourages the cognitive, physical, emotional, and social development of the child and family.
5. Reinforce and enhance the role of the parent as the primary educator of the infants and toddlers.
6. In cooperation with a family member and the coordinator, assess the strengths and needs of each infant and toddler. Develop and implement an individualized infant and toddler plan.
7. Uphold confidentiality of child and family information in accordance with the confidentiality policy.
8. Responsible for health, safety, and welfare of children. Understand and implement safety rules, emergency procedures and plans.

10. Prepare curriculum and daily activities in accordance with program guidelines.
11. Conduct at least four parent contacts with each family each program year. (Two of the contacts should be home visits).
12. Complete required records in a timely manner.
13. Procure classroom supplies keeping within identified budget.
14. Participate in IEP conferences regarding Head Start children.
15. Participate in monthly parent meetings.
16. Participate in classroom team and staff meetings.
17. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
1. G5: Highschool diploma or GED with four years specified experience
2. Employee must be willing to acquire any special certifications or attend any training that is determined to be relevant or becomes required, of the position, in the future.
3. Candidates with equivalent combinations of education, training and experience will be considered.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must have a current Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) to work with infants/toddlers OR 15 core ECE units (ECE 1,2,5,7,11) and the ability to complete an Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, and two (2) years' experience working with pre-school age children in a classroom setting.
2. Preferred (fully qualified): An Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education plus one (1) year experience working with children in a group or educational setting or; bachelor’s degree in child development or Elementary Education plus one (1) year's general work experience working with pre-school children in a group or educational setting.
3. Ability to develop and implement educational curriculum in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards
4. Knowledge of child development and sensitive to the needs and characteristics of young children and families.
5. Ability to relate well to other staff members, parents, and community members.
6. Knowledge of history, culture, and traditions of Native American Tribes of Northwest California particularly the Yurok Tribe.
7. Experience in computer word processing.
8. Possess effective interpersonal and leadership skills.
9. Possess well-developed verbal and written communication skills and abilities.
10. Must be self-directed and able to initiate parent and staff activities.
11. Must provide documentation of a pre-employment and annual health-screening showing that the employee is free of communicable diseases and is physically capable of doing the job.
12. Must provide pre-employment and documentation of a negative TB test or chest x-ray and every five (5) years thereafter.
13. Must provide (within thirty days) documentation of immunization or immunity for all currently recommended childhood immunizations. If an employee is missing required immunizations, they must be completed within six months of hire.
14. Must provide (within thirty days) documentation of receiving Hepatitis B vaccine. The entire series of Hepatitis B immunizations must be completed within six months of hire.
15. Must provide (within thirty days) documentation of enrollment in a course of current certification in Infant & Child, Pediatric, Community, or Universal First Aid and CPR. Must maintain valid First Aid and CPR cards during duration of employment.
16. This position will collaborate with the Yurok Tribe Child Care Program including but not limited to working at the Child Care Program as needed and attending joint training.
17. This position may be required to work a full year and/or full day.
18. If necessary, must adhere to a professional development plan with goals, objectives and timelines.
19. Recognition that in order to serve Yurok People one must know as much as possible about Yurok history, culture and values.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs the full range of supervisory duties and responsibilities. Plans work of subordinates based on priorities, nature of assignment. Develops work performance plans and evaluates the performance of subordinates. Provides advice, instruction, and guidance to subordinates on work and administrative matters. Effects disciplinary actions and determines developmental training needs of employees. Supervises subordinate employees including assigning and reviewing work, evaluation performance, training, taking necessary disciplinary action and making hiring and termination decisions. Use and promote a team approach to management and ensure accountability throughout the workplace.

This position requires compliance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act Public Law 101-630; 25 Code of Federal Regulations Part 63 - Indian child Protection and Family Violence Prevention; Crime Control Act of 1990, Employee Background Checks; and Executive Order 12968, Adjudicative Guidelines.
8. Position could require travel and occasional work outside of regular work schedule.
