We currently have an opening for a Director, Care Centers to support our West Coast Region. The Director of Care Centers is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational oversight, and quality performance of the crematory and transfer care operations. This role ensures that all decedent care processes are conducted with the highest standards of dignity, respect, and regulatory compliance while fostering a culture of teamwork, safety, and operational excellence. The Director will collaborate closely with internal teams, external partners, and regulatory agencies to ensure efficient workflows and exceptional service delivery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of crematory facilities and transfer care teams, ensuring compliance with company policies, industry standards, and all applicable laws and regulations.
- Develop, implement, and monitor standard operating procedures (SOPs) for cremation, storage, transfer, and related processes.
- Maintain a strong focus on operational efficiency, cost management, and resource allocation.
- Lead, coach, and mentor crematory operators, transfer care specialists, and support staff to achieve performance excellence.
- Oversee hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management for all team members.
- Promote a culture of compassion, professionalism, and accountability.
- Ensure all documentation, permits, and records are accurate, complete, and compliant with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of equipment, facilities, and processes.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to maintain and exceed quality standards.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, OSHA requirements, and industry best practices.
- Proactively identify and address potential hazards, operational risks, and training needs.
- Maintain equipment and facility readiness through preventive maintenance schedules.
- Partner with funeral home locations, care teams, and leadership to ensure seamless coordination of services.
- Act as the primary point of contact for escalated operational concerns or client service issues related to cremation and transfers.
- Provide regular operational reports, metrics, and insights to executive leadership.
Education, Work Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Mortuary Science, or related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
- Minimum of 5 years in funeral service operations, crematory management, or related field, including at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Certified Crematory Operator designation preferred (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
- Strong understanding of industry regulations, OSHA standards, and crematory equipment operations.
- Proven leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, sensitive environment.
- Demonstrates empathy and respect in all interactions with decedents, families, and team members.
- Maintains high standards for efficiency, quality, and safety.
