The Senior IT Administrator will lead IT activities for the site, acting as liaison between mine operations, ICS (Industrial Control Systems) teams, and Corporate to meet the IT needs of the site. Under the direction of the Site Controller, the Senior IT Administrator is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. Scope includes networks, process computers, end-user computers, switches, access points, fiber-optic/Ethernet/ISP, etc. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, vendors, and partners to fully utilize Hecla IT systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    Provide general IT support for Lucky Friday end-users that includes configuration and troubleshooting and repair of hardware and software related issues, including peripheral devices, connectivity to local and wide area networks. Support, advise, assist and resolve problems for all users as needed.

    Log and manage requests, incidents, and problems received via phone and email into the service desk ticketing system.

    Assist infrastructure team to troubleshoot network Layer 3 connectivity issues.

    Perform diagnostics with user to collect information regarding problem for RCA (Root Cause Analysis)

    Work with corporate infrastructure team to diagnose and improve shared network resource performance.

    Analyze and correct problems using documented procedures, available tools, and personal knowledge and skill.

    Evaluate software and hardware to determine whether product will be an effective tool for employees.

    Write software and hardware evaluations and recommendations for management review.

    Participate in creation and maintenance of IT standards and procedures.

    Analyze and evaluate incident reports and makes recommendations to reduce the service desk incident rate.

    Assist with developing and improving IT efficiency and customer service rating.

    Maintain inventory records for all hardware/software.

    System patching: Patch servers and workstations with software updates

    Maintain Underground IT systems.

    Work with the Site Controller and Corporate IT to prepare and monitor the site’s IT budget, ensuring costs are within established budgets.

    Participate in Risk Assessment activities as required.

    Contribute to and maintain system standards, protocols, policies, and systems performance metrics, and training.

    Research and recommend innovative and automated approaches for system administration tasks.

    Continuously manage technical debt through cross-training and vendor support.

    Assist and enable users to fully utilize IT system as needed to support Lucky Friday’s business at all levels.

    Install, configure, and maintain desktops, laptops, printers, and mobiles devices.

    At the direction of the Site Controller and/or Corporate IT, analyze Lucky Friday systems to determine current and future needs.

    Assist with the design, development, and implementation of information systems and business solutions for the Lucky Friday.

    Ensure reliable and sustainable backup procedures and operations.

    Install, maintain, provide support, and troubleshoot fiber optic interfaces.

    Install, maintain, provide support, and troubleshoot video cameras and phone systems.

    Plan and prioritize work activities, using time efficiently and effectively, and develop realistic action plans.

    Required to work underground and in the mill as needed to provide IT support.

    Participate in Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) development as required.

    Complies with applicable environmental laws and regulations. Conducts activities and work in an environmentally responsible manner. Is aware of procedures to minimize impacts to the environment.

    Follows and understands MSHA rules and regulations, SOP and work area instructions, participates in safety activities. Must be willing to comply with all company policies and procedures.

    Communicate with co-workers, management, outside contractors and vendors, and employees in a courteous and professional manner.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Supervises the Systems Administrator and site contractors.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Lucky Friday Unit’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding, coaching, and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in an IT or business-related field.

Minimum 5 years’ experience.

Current certification in technologies used by Hecla preferred.

CompTIA A+ and Network+ preferred

Industry standard certifications such as ITIL, Microsoft, and Cisco preferred.

Supervisory experience preferred.

Prior experience in the mining sector preferred. 

Must be able to work independently, as well as a member of a team.  

Must be self-motivated. 

Must have flexibility with scheduling and be willing to work early mornings, nights, and weekends as needed.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. 

Familiar with using an IT ticket system.

Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. 

Ability to organize and write procedures in a logical/methodical manner. 

Good time management skills. 

Excellent attention to detail. 

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

Must complete MSHA 40-hour training or provide 5000-23 documentation of completed training.

Must pass physical and drug screen.
