Description
The Laser Operator is responsible for assisting in the operation of CNC flat laser machines in a manufacturing setting. This entry-level role involves material handling, machine setup support, observation, and quality control to ensure the accurate and efficient production of laser-cut parts. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and eager to learn laser cutting technology.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Material Handling
- Assist in loading and unloading materials onto the CNC laser machine.
- Identify different materials (steel, aluminum, stainless steel) and their thicknesses.
- Ensure materials are positioned and secured properly before cutting.
2. Machine Setup Support
- Gain a basic understanding of machine components and functions.
- Assist material handlers and operators in setting up the machine.
- Load cutting programs and navigate machine controllers at a basic level.
3. Machine Operation & Observation
- Monitor CNC laser machine operations to detect issues.
- Observe how the laser interacts with different materials and report abnormalities.
- Assist in adjusting machine settings under supervision.
4. Safety Protocols
- Follow all workplace safety guidelines and procedures.
- Wear required PPE (safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, hearing protection).
- Ensure machine safety interlocks and guards are properly engaged.
5. Quality Control Support
- Perform basic inspections to verify cut parts meet dimensional accuracy.
- Use measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, tape measures) for basic quality checks.
Qualifications
- Basic understanding of CNC laser cutting principles.
- Ability to read and interpret simple drawings or blueprints.
- Knowledge of shop safety procedures and PPE requirements.
- Basic mechanical skills, including handling tools and materials.
- Willingness to obtain forklift and overhead crane certification within 6 months.
