General Summary:
The Museum Educator, under general supervision, develops, implements, and evaluates educational programs and materials for primary and secondary students, special groups, and the general public. The Museum Educator will also be responsible for coordinating and facilitating on-site tours, distance learnings, outreaches, and labs. This position requires the ability to maintain departmental data and confidentiality of sensitive information and will be a part of a collaborative outreach team and may also supervise student employees. The position will require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
Responsibilities:
- Plans, organizes and directs tours, programs, and curriculum for students via museum gallery space, outreach, STEAM Lab, Planetarium, and Science on a Sphere.
- Develops and produces new, dynamic, TEKS aligned, STEAM related content and programs for public schools and other educational institutions, including both unaccompanied materials and staff accompanied resources.
- Promotes the museum and its services to other educational organizations through contacts and presentations. Collaborate and liaise with educators and educational organizations to create new learning opportunities and community partnerships.
- Plans and executes educational programming such as summer gallery programs, summer camps, Constitution Day, Week of the Young Child, and Dia de los Muertos. Provides educational programming based on the mission and goals to public school aged children.
- Collaborates with the museum outreach team to plan and execute educational components for general museum programming.
- Maintains educational data to track and evaluate student and teacher engagement, program implementation, and advance program development.
- Coordinates with the PPHM Marketing team to develop and distribute educational materials, social media posts, and assist with media releases to promote educational offerings.
- Provides educational components for permanent and temporary exhibits, including hands-on components and other accessible components.
- Maintains 100% compliance with timely completion of required System, University and job-specific online training courses.

Necessary Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One (1) year of related experience in formal or informal education.
- Knowledge of State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
- Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
- Budgeting, general administration and staff management.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be comfortable working with the general public via community outreach and donor relations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree.
- Three (3) years of related experience in a museum setting.
- Experience with Altru Museum Software, history of the Texas Panhandle.
