Jewish Family and Children's Services (JFCS) has served the San Francisco Bay Area for 175 years. We offer world-class services to support individuals and families across all stages of life, including adoption, mental health, senior care, disability services, financial assistance, Holocaust education, and youth development. The JFCS Holocaust Center is a primary resource for Holocaust and genocide education in California. Through a deeper understanding of Jewish history, the Holocaust, and patterns of genocide, our work inspires moral courage and social responsibility in future generations.


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Education Specialist plays a key role in shaping and delivering innovative Holocaust and genocide education. Reporting to the Director of Education, this position oversees the JFCS William J. Lowenberg Speakers Bureau and related educational initiatives. The Education Specialist inspires engagement with schools, universities, businesses, and community organizations, ensuring powerful encounters with testimony that resonate with thousands each year. This role combines program design, relationship building, and direct facilitation, while also advancing new growth opportunities for the Holocaust Center.  


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • Salary Range: $90,000 - $105,000 (depending on experience)
  • Employment Type: Full-time, exempt with benefits
  • Hybrid work schedule

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and grow the JFCS William J. Lowenberg Speakers Bureau, reaching thousands annually with survivors and descendant; Manage all aspects of program delivery: outreach, education design, facilitation, billing and partnership development
  • Identify community needs and create educational opportunities for the post-survivor era
  • Build and maintain relationships with speakers and descendants, ensuring thoughtful support and engagement
  • Develop programs, classroom curricula, and workshops rooted in speakers’ stories
  • Design and facilitate workshops and Conversation Circle programs in partnership with JFCS staff
  • Represent the Holocaust Center at schools and community programs 
  • Build partnerships with universities, companies, and organizations locally and nationally, extending the reach of the Holocaust Center and increasing opportunities for fee-generating programs as well as piloting and developing future initiatives
  • Advance the mission of the JFCS Holocaust Center by empowering people of all backgrounds to confront antisemitism, hate, and dehumanization through Holocaust and genocide education, while deepening understanding of Jewish history, culture, and peoplehood 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in education and program management
  • Experience teaching in classrooms and working with youth in an educational setting
  • Knowledge of Holocaust and Jewish history, culture, and community
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite; experience with Asana and Salesforce a plus
  • Ability to work on-site during business hours and occasional evenings/weekends as required
  • Ability to travel 2–3 times annually throughout California for programming and school visits
  • Access to a reliable car, valid CA driver’s license, and proof of liability insurance
