Under the direction of the Regional Manager, this position is responsible for overall management of retail banking-related activities within an assigned market including, but not limited to, the sales, service, and compliant delivery of all Bank of Hawaii (BOH) services to meet financial goals. In addition, the position is responsible for the customer experience, community leadership, human resources management, meeting compliance standards, managing expenses and meeting financial goals. Further, this position leverages the strengths of various business units at Bank of Hawaii to integrate and coordinate initiatives designed to improve Bank of Hawaii’s visibility and presence in serving the financial needs of the community. This position oversees the market, branches designated as banking center(s), community, and in-store branches and works directly with the region/division, and appropriate management and staff to develop and execute the strategic plan.
Responsibilities
- Establish market-based strategies and business plan, utilizing local and global market knowledge. Possess and maintain an in-depth understanding of the local market, community, culture, people, and businesses. Understand global market dynamics, including emerging industry trends and impact on consumers, competitors, and our business. Manage performance against company and divisional goals while working with management internal and external to division. Allocate resources based on understanding of unique market characteristics and direct proactive client-focused activities to achieve objectives. Leverage strength of business units resident in branch through ESS leadership and coaching disciplines.
- Develop new and maintain existing client portfolio of consumer, small business, and commercial accounts to ensure customer satisfaction, retention and increased revenue. Drive revenue and sales generation for market to meet goals. Maximize affluent and profitable client relationships including the top tier consumer and business customer segments in the market by offering superior value and financial expertise.
- Provide strong leadership for staff, which includes a strategic vision, prioritization of tasks/goals, and execution of plans. Includes instilling and relating actions back to the corporate vision, mission, culture, and values, in addition to acknowledging unique market characteristics. Actively influence, motivate, and enable others to add value to organizational success through a strategic and visionary lens. Participate in the community to build relationships and enhance referral network through membership in business and community organizations to drive revenue and reinforce the Bank of Hawaii brand. Assist managers in developing and enhancing their skills to building and reinforce their community involvement to drive revenue and reinforce brand. Participate in bank sponsored events and facilitate financial seminars.
- Develop and maintain understanding of the economics of each business unit and the Bank overall, including products and services, regulatory and operational risk, and brand value to each consumer segment. Develop internal relationships with partners to facilitate referrals and further business development. Maintain knowledge of current bank policies, procedures, federal and state laws and regulations.
- Ensure exceptional client experience and engaging and inspiring employee experience through strong leadership. Responsible for the management of all employees in the team including staffing and scheduling, compensation, performance management, training and development. Goal is to attract, retain and motivate the team to achieve management business objectives and maintain a favorable employee relations climate. Responsible for the timely and effective management of Human Resources forms and documents relevant to immediate staff. Lead and manage overall market resources to include coaching, mentoring, conflict resolution, and various talent management dimensions (performance management, succession planning, talent development, retention and career development).
- Perform all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
REGISTRATION REQUIREMENT: Registration with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System & Registry. If not yet registered, registration to be completed and accepted no later than 30 days from employment or transfer date. If not registered and accepted, employment may be terminated
- Education: Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution or equivalent work experience.
- Experience: Level is dependent on years of experience and size/complexity of prior positions held. Leadership and management experience to include understanding of retail and small business markets in Hawaii, as well as financial services industry and regulatory environment.
- Senior Branch Market Manager: Minimum 8 – 15 years of increasingly responsible banking lead/supervisory/management positions, including at least 4 - 7 years of experience in retail banking managing an area, region or market, business banking center or unit, leading a team or working as a commercial banking officer with a significant sized portfolio; and including significant roles on region/business unit project teams or initiatives; or equivalent work experience.
- Branch Market Director: Minimum 12 – 20 years of increasingly responsible banking management positions, including at least 8 - 10 years of experience in retail banking managing an area, region or market, business banking center or unit; or 8 - 10 years of experience managing a commercial banking center or unit; and including significant roles on division/region/business unit project teams or initiatives; or equivalent work experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency and advanced expertise with personal computers in a networked environment and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint) or similar software. Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills. Able to build strong working relationships and partnerships across organization with a collaborative and consultative approach. Must be able to develop relationships with direct reports who work at different locations. Should have strong project management and organizational skills, required to execute and complete projects on-time. Able to simultaneously manage multiple projects and assignments with varying deadlines. Possesses strong intellectual curiosity, business acumen and knowledge of market. Able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends and evenings as necessary. Must be able to provide own transportation or to operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license, and able to commute and arrive at intended destination timely. May require travel by air.
