STUDENT ASSISTANT EMPLOYEE JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the Student Operations Assistant and with guidance from the Operations Supervisor, the Student Building Manager is responsible for supporting and ensuring a wide variety of daily activities and events occurring in the University Student Union (USU).
JOB DUTIES:
· Opens and/or closes facility, and provides general facility security
· Supports and ensures daily activities and events occurring in the facility
· Interprets and enforces USU policies and procedures
· Serves as a resource to facility guests, as well as employees
· Responds appropriately to a variety of emergency situations including but not limited to medical emergencies, fire, civil disturbances and acts of nature
· Inspects and maintains furniture and audio-visual equipment and assists in maintaining inventory of same
· Generates written and detailed reports of all activities occurring during work shift, including unusual situations and circumstances
· Maintains and reports status of fire alarm panels on a daily basis
· Ensures and executes room set-ups in accordance with daily work order
· Maintains proper furniture arrangements in lounge and public spaces by moving or lifting furniture
· Ensures proper audio-visual equipment set-up and breakdown including public address systems (PA), projectors, microphones, portable screens, etc. Assists with moving or lifting equipment during set-up
· Trouble-shoots audio visual equipment
· Assists events sponsors in their use of the facility and serves as the liaison to sponsors during events
· Utilize multiple software to effectively complete all tasks
· Lead, provide guidance, and utilizes resources in emergency response situations to ensure guest and employee safety during unexpected emergency situations
· Monitors and maintains facility cleanliness including miscellaneous trash pick-up, graffiti removal, and carpet and furniture spot cleaning
· Completes minor repairs to tables, chairs, stages, etc.
· Monitors building and facility maintenance needs and generates work orders
· Must attend required USU employee orientation and trainings as well as department specific trainings and meetings dressed in work appropriate attire
· Executes a variety of facility-related projects as assigned
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
· Must be a currently enrolled CSUN student
EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS
· Previous related experience and/or specialized education required.
· American Red Cross or department approved First Aid, CPR, and AED certification shall be obtained within 30 days. Inability to obtain Certification within 30 days of HR sign-in may result in forfeiture of job. Training is periodically offered free of charge by the USU. Applicants unable to attend USU-sponsored training are required to obtain certification at their own expense
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
This position is a sensitive position as designated by the CSU. Following an offer of employment, the appointment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. · Must be available to work a minimum of 10/hours/week and two (2)/weekends/month based on the operational needs and working hours of the department.
· The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Proven leadership and organizational skills.
· Ability to follow rules and regulations, and use work time productively
· Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Macintosh, and PC systems
· Must be detailed oriented, self-motivated, and possess strong initiative
· Ability to perform a wide variety of moderately-complex to complex tasks requiring judgment, analysis and decision-making
· Ability to develop and implement policy and procedure
· Ability to provide and model exceptional guest service skills
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills including knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation as well as the ability to both give and follow oral and written instructions

· Must be able to remain calm under pressure, think quickly and respond effectively to emergency situations
· Ability to assist and take direction from local authorities during emergency situations (Fire Department, campus Police, etc.)
· Ability to identify problems and/or concerns relative to position of employment, and recommend viable solutions
· Ability to respond to major and minor emergencies such as earthquakes, civil disturbances, hazardous materials, etc.

SUPERVISION:
Supervision is provided by the Student Operations Assistant and with guidance from the Operations Supervisor.
This position does not officially supervise other employees; it may, however, provide lead direction and/or guidance to employees in emergency situations.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is typically performed both in both indoor and outdoor environments in possible inclement weather conditions. Ability to arrive at work on time for all scheduled work shifts except in the event of emergency required. Daily contact with members of the campus community, including students, faculty, staff, administrators and guests, is required. Must possess an ability and willingness to work weekends, evenings, holidays, finals weeks, and during academic interim and break periods as needed. Must be flexible, adaptable, and readily able to adjust to changes in work environment.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of Student Building Manager.
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee will be required to stand and walk for a vast majority of all work shifts; talk and hear; be able to detect smoke, heat and subtle smells. Must be able to independently move and/or lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required and includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
