Driver Manager
Reports To (Supervisor/Hiring Manager Title): Senior Director - Asset Operations
Hybrid Role, but candidates must be able to commute to our office in Hiawatha, IA.
Position Overview/Job Description: The Driver Manager will be responsible for managing a team of drivers, ensuring the timely and safe delivery of goods, and maintaining compliance with policies and regulations. The role involves dispatching, scheduling, training, performance management, and addressing any issues that arise with drivers or delivery operations.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of the driver team, including scheduling and route planning.
- Monitor driver performance and ensure adherence to safety standards and company policies.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to drivers.
- Ensure all drivers comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including hours of service and vehicle maintenance.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of transportation regulations and industry best practices.
- Address and resolve safety issues or violations promptly.
- Provide training and orientation for new drivers, including company policies, safety procedures, and equipment usage.
- Identify ongoing training needs and coordinate refresher courses or skill development programs.
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize route planning and delivery efficiency.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless operations and address any logistical challenges.
- Maintain accurate records of driver activities, including logs, performance metrics, and compliance documentation.
- Prepare reports and analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Independently manage the customers; problem resolution, and other customer service practices while developing or expanding the business we do with that customer(s).
- Negotiate and bind pricing.
- Ensure shipping requirements and regulations are met.
- Notify customers if shipments are delayed.
- Track shipment details, locations, ETAs.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Driver Manager, Dispatcher or similar role in transportation or logistics
- Knowledge of transportation regulations and safety standards while also keeping up to date
- Experience using the Microsoft Office Suite and ability to work with a TMS
- Strong leadership abilities and attributes
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to handle stressful situations and resolve conflict
Education Requirements: High School Diploma required.
Salary/Hourly Rate: Depending on experience.
Bonus Eligibility: Commission opportunity available.
