Position Overview:

Crossroads is seeking an experienced Paralegal III to support the US Attorney's Office for the District of South Carolina's Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) program. This role involves providing direct and independent legal and investigative support to Assistant U.S. Attorneys (AUSAs) and investigators in complex civil litigation, particularly in fraud and civil enforcement matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct legal research and draft court filings, memoranda, and correspondence.
  • Analyze and summarize case files, transcripts, and discovery materials.
  • Manage large volumes of electronically stored information (ESI) and discovery documents.
  • Prepare case summaries, discovery logs, and visual aids for trial.
  • Assist in witness interviews, depositions, hearings, and trial preparation.
  • Utilize e-discovery tools (e.g., Everlaw), legal databases (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis), and law enforcement tools (e.g., CLEAR).
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to DOJ ethics and cybersecurity training requirements.
  • Travel occasionally for case-related work or training (with prior approval).

Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate degree required.
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of paralegal experience.
  • Skills:
    • Strong legal and analytical skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe).
    • Experience with federal court systems and civil litigation procedures.
    • Ability to manage large-scale discovery and document review.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of DOJ and USAO practices related to civil enforcement and parallel proceedings.

Work Schedule:

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • Core hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
  • Federal holidays observed.
  • Occasional overtime and travel may be required with prior approval.

Security & Compliance:

  • Must pass a DOJ background investigation (can take up to 8 weeks).
  • Must meet DOJ residency requirements (lived in the U.S. 3 of the last 5 years).
  • Required to sign confidentiality and loyalty agreements.
  • Completion of DOJ ethics and cybersecurity training is mandatory.
