Position Title:
School Nurse (Part-Time)
Hours:
This is a part-time position, working approximately 3 to 4 hours per day, Monday through Friday, during the school year.
Qualifications:
Registered professional nurse, currently licensed by the State of Connecticut and meeting the State requirements for qualification as a school nurse in Connecticut. [C.G.S. Sec 10-212.]
No less than one year’s full-time experience as a registered nurse within the last five (5) years immediately prior to employment.

Coordinator of Health Services and School Principal

Performance Responsibilities:
Promotes and maintains student health through:
Facilitating positive student responses to typical development
Collaborating with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning
Providing health counseling and guidance to students and parents
Assisting with the instruction of health education and serving as a resource person in matters pertaining to health education and development of health curriculum
Promoting health and safety in the school setting
Providing case management services
Consulting with community health care providers regarding student health matters
Consulting with school staff as necessary related to student health problems
Additional Responsibilities:
Provides first aid treatment of accidents and care of illnesses that occur in school
Ensures that student health assessments and immunizations as required by State law are current according to regulations
At the high school, certifies to the athletic coaches that all athletes have obtained a health assessment and are cleared medically to participate in the sports program
Conducts district’s student health screenings required by current law
Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records of all students according to district procedures
Maintains data on health interventions for district reporting
Reports on student health assessment and health status as necessary to the planning and placement team
Initiates staff, student, and visitor accident reports and reports such incidents according to district policy
Observes the school environment and recommends changes necessary to maintain optimum health and safety of students and school personnel
Provides information necessary for school health surveys and reports as required by Connecticut State Departments of Education and Health
Assists with any special immunization clinics as ordered by the school physician
Keeps current in best practices in school nursing and in particular, issues regarding the health and well-being of school-aged children
Carries out other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Health Services
Term of Employment:
Ten-month, part-time position (3 to 3.5 hours/day, Monday–Friday)
