Members of the Chemistry Departmental Student Council (DSC) are responsible for representing the interests of chemistry students within the department and university community. They work collaboratively to plan, organize, and execute events, outreach initiatives, and other activities that enhance the academic and social experience of their peers. DSC members serve as a bridge between students and faculty, advocating for student needs and ensuring a vibrant, supportive, and inclusive environment within the department.

Time Commitment and Remuneration

Time Commitment and Responsibilities

  • Year Representatives (8 total: 2 per year)
    • Represent the chemistry student body for their respective year.
    • Encourage peers to participate in DSC events and initiatives.
    • Coordinate with professors to make in-class announcements.
    • Serve as a liaison between students and the department.
  • Events Coordinators (3 Positions)
    • Organize and execute academic, social, and networking events to foster community within the department.
    • Collaborate with vendors, faculty, and student groups to secure resources and promote events effectively.
    • Outreach Coordinators (2 Positions)
      • Develop and implement outreach initiatives to connect the Chemistry department with the broader community.
      • Partner with schools, local organizations, and other university departments to promote chemistry education and awareness.
    • Marketing Coordinators (2 Positions)
      • Design and distribute promotional materials across various platforms to increase engagement in DSC activities.
      • Manage the Chemistry DSC’s social media presence, ensuring consistent and effective communication with students.
    • Merchandise Coordinator (2 Position)
      • Design and oversee the production of department-branded merchandise, ensuring it reflects student interests and departmental identity.
      • Coordinate sales and distribution efforts, including online and in-person events, to maximize reach and profitability.
    • Year Representatives (8 Positions - 2 from each year)
      • Serve as the voice of students in their respective years, gathering feedback and communicating concerns to the DSC.
      • Assist in promoting DSC events and initiatives within their cohort, ensuring inclusive participation.
    • Wesbite Coordinators (2 Positions)
      • Revamp and maintain the DSC website, which has not been used recently.
      • Exercise creative freedom in design, layout, and content.
      • Keep information up-to-date (events, resources, contact info).
    • Secretary (1 Position)
      • Record and distribute minutes from DSC meetings, maintaining an organized record of discussions and decisions.
      • Manage internal and external communications, ensuring timely responses and clear information flow within the council.
      • Treasurer (1 Position) 
        • Manage DSC finances and process relevant financial request forms.
        • Prepare and monitor budgets to ensure fiscal responsibility.
        • Provide financial updates at meetings when required.
