What We Are Looking For:
We’re seeking an SVP of Engineering who combines deep technical expertise with the vision and clarity to scale complex systems with purpose and precision. You lead with empathy, structure, and urgency, enabling teams to deliver robust, scalable solutions and are ultimately responsible for spearheading end to end transformation to deliver revenue growth.
You will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of the technical strategy and managing engineering leads and their teams to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. This predominantly remote position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future innovation of our Engineering operations. You will possess excellent management skills and thrive leading and working with the data, models and development teams. The SVP of Engineering will work closely with the Leadership team and other senior leaders to drive the company's engineering strategy and performance.
Technical Proficiency
You have a deep and proven understanding of data product technologies, including databases, data analytics, machine learning, and cloud computing. You drive informed decisions and guide the team effectively. You make strategic decisions regarding the architecture, tools, services and frameworks used in the end to end product development process. This includes:
1. Data Technologies: This includes understanding various types of databases (SQL, NoSQL), data warehousing solutions, data lakes, and big data technologies. Familiarity with data integration tools and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) / ELT, are important.
2. Data Analytics and Visualization: Proficiency in data tools and visualization platforms. You understand interpreting data, generating insights, and storytelling with elegant UX.
3. Machine Learning and AI: Proven knowledge of machine learning algorithms, frameworks, and AI technologies. You can guide the development of predictive models and intelligent systems.
4. Cloud Computing: Expert in cloud platforms (AWS) and their data services is critical. This includes knowledge of cloud storage, data processing, and cloud-native architectures.
5. Data Governance and Security: Awareness of data governance principles, data privacy laws and security best practices. This ensures that data is managed responsibly and securely.
6. Continuous Learning: The tech landscape is always evolving, so a good leader stays updated with the latest trends, tools, and technologies. This might involve attending conferences, participating in online courses, or engaging with professional communities.
Core responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning: Build and deliver the technology roadmap aligned with our strategic priorities and business vision.
- Project Oversight: Ensuring successful delivery of products by overseeing timelines and resource allocation. Lead the engineering organisation, promoting a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating technical risks to ensure the stability and security of systems and products.
- Performance Monitoring: Tracking and analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of initiatives.
- Budgeting: Develop and assess financial plans that outline the costs associated with development initiatives and justify the investment.
- Innovation: Drive the adoption of new technologies and methodologies to ensure TelmarHelixa remains at the forefront of innovation and quantifies results and metrics.
Qualifications/experience:
- 10+ years of experience in data tech and product development leadership roles, with a focus on data products, data analytics and adtech platforms.
- Deep understanding of SaaS B2B products and the technical and organizational complexities they entail.
- MSc in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Have previously worked for a PE backed firm in a scale-up environment.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Solid track record in hiring, coaching, and growing engineering talent.
- Have expert software engineering expertise in Java, Python and AWS.
- Sound understanding of APIs, source control (via Git/Github) and OpenAPI documentation.
- Understanding of both SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Proven experience with AI and ML in embedded or integrated system development.
- Comfortable working across time zones and managing asynchronous communication effectively.
