Job Description:Job Summary
Under general supervision, learns basic operations in receiving and delivery of containers and equipment operations. In this capacity, the determination of progression is defined based on individual aptitude and company needs.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Learn container processes and basic terminal operations.
- Learn to effectively use various pieces of equipment to move containers on the terminal. Equipment includes but is not limited to a yard truck, empty handler, top loader, and rubber tire gantry crane.

- Maintains clean and safe workspace.

Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A valid South Carolina driver’s license is required to operate a Ports Authority-owned licensed motor vehicle.
Skills and Abilities
- Basic computer skills are required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Heavy equipment operation
- Customer service experience
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Individuals must be willing to work flexible schedules including overtime. The schedule of work varies and may include weekend and night shifts. The schedule of work may change with minimal notice.
- Standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing and pulling.
- Lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs; overhead lifting may be required.
- Climbing stairs and/or ladders over 15 ft.
- Must have 20/20 vision with corrective lenses: peripheral vision/depth perception.
- Must possess visual capabilities for day and night operations.
- Must not be color blind.
- Must be able to stand and walk for long periods in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to hear spoken and radio communication and audible alarms and warning devices.
- Must speak clearly for face-to-face and radio communications.
- Must wear Personal Protective Equipment as required (hard hat, safety shoes, reflective vest, fall protection harness, and hearing protection).
- Must have the ability to work in a restricted space.
