Position Overview
This position is responsible for devising, implementing and managing the strategy, vision and direction of the Digital and Creative Content unit, comprising the areas of creative video, photography, social media, and graphic design for Butler’s intercollegiate athletics program. The position will oversee and manage all staff in those areas, and will be the primary liaison between the Digital and Creative Media department and sport programs, coaches, and staff for creative vision and brand consistency; interface and collaborate directly with other external revenue-driving units and campus partners regarding the production and distribution of content across multiple digital and social media platforms; and work with Assistant AD for Marketing on the Marketing, Digital and Creative Media budget.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for overseeing and managing all areas of digital and creative media to include the planning, creating, and distribution of creative content across all digital and social media platforms for Butler’s 22 sport programs (under the direction of the Associate Athletic Director for Communications)
- Implement and manage the strategy, vision, and direction for the areas they oversee to align with athletics department priorities and content strategies that promote Butler’s athletics programs and student-athletes
- Analyze, plan, and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors
- Additional responsibilities include cross-departmental communication and planning to maximize revenue generation, seeking innovative ways to increase storytelling opportunities, fan engagement, and brand enhancement
- Help build and maintain a positive culture through collaboration with administrators, athletic trainers, strength and conditioning staff, sport coaches, student-athletes, and other athletic personnel
- Other duties as assigned by Associate Athletic Director for Communications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related area of assignment or equivalency of at least 5 years of experience in Creative Media Services (athletics experience preferred)
- Knowledge of and compliance with NCAA Division I, BIG EAST/Pioneer Football League rules and regulations, and Butler University policies and procedures
- Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively lead, oversee, and develop staff members to ensure smooth operation of the department
- Demonstrated experience in digital and creative media production and social media strategy
- Strong communication skills and effective sense of collaboration and teamwork
- Extensive knowledge of and familiarity with the creation of content inherent to the areas of supervision
- Expertise in developing and applying effective systems for utilizing Photoshelter to manage the department’s digital assets and power the delivery of content across platforms
- Ability to strategize, shoot, and produce digital content for multiple social media and online media platforms to generate engagement and positively publicize Butler Athletics
- Experience working within an intercollegiate athletics program or professional sports franchise and ideally experience within an NCAA Division I college football program
- Knowledge and experience with Adobe Creative Suite required
- Knowledge of NCAA Division I, Big East/Pioneer Football rules and regulations
- Outstanding verbal leadership and communication skills
- Ability to work flexible hours required
- Ability to travel with teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Desired candidate will have outstanding leadership and verbal communication skills and be able to work effectively with student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and other athletic staff
- Demonstrated progression in leadership and management experience with previous experience overseeing a staff preferred
- Experience in other multi-media production platforms (websites, animation, graphic design) desired
- At least 5 years of experience in Digital and Creative Media (within athletics)
- Master’s Degree (preferred but not required)
