Position Overview: The Blending Lead is responsible for supervising and coordinating activities within the blending department. Manually, blend liquid and powder ingredients at a high rate of speed ensuring a high quality, efficient operation. The Blender operates various machinery for weighing ingredients, pumping ingredients into processing tanks, transferring liquid, and cleaning/sanitizing to Sanitation Standards.    

Language Skills: English proficiency required.  Spanish is a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure personal safety, food safety, and quality protocols are followed, with a focus on adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) protocols, and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs).
  • Maintain a clean work area.  
  • Stage and verify ingredients for blending which include verifying batch documentation, identifying discrepancies in batch documentation, assembling ingredients, weighing ingredients, performing blend calculations including metric conversions, properly handling partial ingredients, verifying ingredients, and recording data.
  • Must be able to document batch data with accuracy and legibility and ensure documentation is complete and fully in compliance at blending/processing and CIP areas.
  • Follow recipes to produce products of specified flavor, clarity, and/or color. 
  • Follow established blend procedure to include mixing ingredients per instructions, gathering and recording required information, sampling and testing, and adding ingredients to premix tank.
  • Daily operation of machines which includes scales, processing systems, hoists, pumps, and all other related equipment.
  • Observe and listen to equipment to detect possible malfunctions, such as leaks, plugging, or cavitations, and report malfunctions to leadership.
  • Troubleshoot issues with various processing equipment.
  • Manually monitor such things as carbonation, product temperatures, tank pressure, differential pressures, flow rates, and pump activity.
  • Communicates needs and issues clearly, both on shift and across shifts through proper shift pass-downs.   
  • Clean in Place (CIP) Blend Tanks.
  • Chemical titrations and micro swabbing.
  • Clean out of Place (COP) processing fittings and other aids.
  • Understand batch hold times and plan when batching should occur.
  • Understand and follow recycling procedures for plastics, drums, and pallets.
  • Safely and efficiently operate Foamer.
  • Oversees all day-to-day activities of the Blend Room and personnel during a shift.
  • Provide Blend Room operators with proper tools and training to ensure all products are blended in a safe, consistent manner and in accordance with specific blending instructions.
  • Organize staffing to ensure all Blend Room activities are completed as required.
  • Set and maintain a very high standard for quality and safety by creating a culture of trust and teamwork.
  • Interprets specifications and job orders to workers. Checks control points and equipment for potential errors.  
  • Facilitates corrections to malfunctions within process control points.
  • Plans flow of materials through department.  
  • Interfaces with others in the organization to ensure customer deadlines are met.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Maintains time and production records.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere and interaction with customers, co-workers, and management.  
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Work scheduled shift, weekends, and extended hours as required.
  • Regular and punctual attendance.

Education and/or Experience: 

  • Operation of Forklift, certification required.
  • High School Degree or Equivalent required.  
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 2 years relevant experience in Food Processing or Bottling Company, preferred.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Environment:  While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. Employee is regularly exposed to changes in production facility temperature based on environmental conditions.
