Position Overview: The Senior Data Engineer, in collaboration with the Business Analyst, business partners, and other technical staff, delivers insightful technology solutions and business reporting, via design, capture, and use of data across IMC Companies systems that support shipment movement or other business functions.
This role will also mentor and provide data management leadership across the technical and business staff, and to Data Engineers in less senior positions.
Essential Job Functions
- Assess data capture requirement, develop data structure, and develop reports and analysis on medium to high complexity projects
- Provide leadership in the management and design of the reporting environment, including data sources, security, and metadata
- Implement effective business analytics practices, reporting, and analytics that drive improved decision making, efficiency, and performance across the business
- Communicate regularly with technical, business, applications, and operational staff to ensure database integrity, data quality, data reconciliation, data security, and optimized performance
- Support the data warehouse in identifying and revising reporting requirements
- Lead initiatives for data integrity and normalization
- Define data acquisition and development of data set processes using programming language and ETL tools and processes, advanced reporting, and creation of visualizations
- Prepare data for predictive and prescriptive modeling, find hidden patterns using data, and use data to discover tasks that can be automated
- Perform technical troubleshooting, code debugging, and problem solving for custom built data warehousing solutions
- Evaluate changes and updates to source production systems
- Assess tests and implementation of new or updated software, and assist with strategic decisions on new systems
- Create, review, and sign-off on documentation in compliance with the IMC global development process
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence by identifying and implementing process improvements where appropriate
- Conduct all business in a highly ethical manner, exhibiting behavior, practices, and standards that uphold IMC core values
- Perform other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
- 5+ years of qualifying work experience in information technology, engineering, or business environment of which 3+ years are in performing the duties of a database administrator or data engineer
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or business administration and/or equivalent formal training or work experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to present to senior and executive management
- Proven collaboration and interpersonal skills
- Proven analytical skills on projects in medium to high scale
- Availability to travel as needed

- Engineer specific skills:
- Experience managing ODBC connections, SQL jobs, stored procedures, and views
- SQL Clustering & HA
- Scripting SQL Monitoring, alerting, and diagnosis
- Proficient in PostgreSQL or EnterpriseDB database environments
- Proficient in MS SQL Server, Integration Services and/or other Reporting Services
- Formal training on Agile roles, principles, and methodologies
- Experience in an Agile environment
- DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) Knowledge / Proficiency
- Experienced in use MS Office tools, specifically Power BI
