The Trust Investment Officer is the business development representative for investment options for the Trust Department.  Collaborates with Trust Officers to analyze, develop and implement investment strategies for personal trust and investment management accounts.  Must be able to operate effectively in a client-centric, growth-oriented, team-focused, and transformational environment. This role involves developing tailored investment strategies, conducting security analysis, monitoring performance and ensuring compliance with fiduciary standards and client objectives.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Investment Management & Oversight

  • Manage investments across estate, trust, agency, IRA, and other account types.
  • Buy/sell securities in accordance with agreements and committee policies.
  • Monitor economic conditions and adjust asset allocation targets accordingly.
  • Maintain approved securities lists and present updates to the Trust Committee.
  • Conduct due diligence on securities and prepare performance reports.

Client & Advisor Collaboration

  • Work closely with Trust Administration Officers, Advisors and Staff.
  • Develop Investment Policy Statements tailored to client goals.
  • Review legacy positions and recommend strategies.
  • Respond to client inquiries and conduct periodic investment reviews.
  • Presentations for Not For Profits.

Portfolio Strategy & Execution

  • Recommend and execute trades for discretionary accounts.
  • Compare actual allocations to tactical models and adjust as needed.
  • Analyze financial documents to assess portfolio design and financial health.
  • Ensure alignment with tax considerations and regulatory requirements.

 

Committee Participation & Reporting

  • Member & Participant in the Trust Investment Committee.
  • Report on investment activities and performance to internal committees.
  • Contribute to investment-related projects.

Business Development

  • Support new business efforts by reviewing portfolios and proposing changes.
  • Prepare proposals and assist in onboarding new trust accounts.
  • Represent the bank in community activities and client meetings.

Portfolio Rebalancing

  • Monitor and rebalance trust portfolios to ensure alignment with clients’ investment objectives, risk tolerance and financial goals.

Reporting and Communication

  • Provide regular updates and communication on portfolio performance, market trends, and any changes to investment strategies.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Proficient in working with customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance.
  • Expert-level understanding of investments and portfolio management strategies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to provide concise, relevant market commentary and explain sometimes complex investment terms to clients and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in evaluating and distilling investment research.
  • Proven ability to articulate investment strategies and account performance, as well as answer questions to help build relationships. 
  • Demonstrated experience with estate planning principles, taxes, insurance, retirement accounts and other financial planning-related terms.  
  • Experience in mentoring and providing feedback to fellow associates and/or serving as a point of escalation for complex discussions. 
  • Familiarity with multiple accounting, performance, and trading systems. 
  • Proficiency in spreadsheets, databases, and other software programs (Morningstar Direct, Microsoft Office, FIS Charlotte, Zephyr, Argus Research, Investors’ View, etc.).

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred and minimum 6 years of related work experience that required making investment recommendations and allocations relied upon others. 
  • CFP or CTFA designation.
  • Strong analytical, communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with fiduciary standards, regulatory compliance and portfolio construction.
  • Experience with non-model portfolios and unique asset classes is highly desirable.
