About the opportunity

 

Medical Panels play an important role in the fair assessment of medical disputes under the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensations Act 2013 and the Wrongs Act 1958, hearing around 4,500 referrals each year and producing binding decisions that have a significant impact on injured workers and claimants. Specialist staff are employed by WorkSafe to assist in the administration and management of the operations of Medical Panels.

 

We are currently seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (with 5 years minimum experience) to join Medical Panels as a Nurse Administrator, responsible for the provision of effective and efficient administration and nurse support services for the Convenor of Medical Panels and Medical Panel Members.

 

Working collaboratively with other nursing and medical panels staff, this position provides assistance to injured workers/claimants while they are attending a Medical Panel hearing.

 

This position will require availability to work the standard hours of 8.30am-5pm Monday to Friday, located at La Trobe Street, Melbourne.

 

Key accountabilities of the position include:

 

  • Reception management and efficient check in of injured workers/claimants
  • Promote and manage the implementation of safety focus standards in the Medical Panels reception and examination rooms, supporting Panels Members and staff as required. This may include, administration of health questionnaires, management of PPE in a unique health setting, and reporting concerns to Medical Panel members as necessary.
  • Attend to, support and monitor injured workers/claimants attending Medical Panels, prior, during and post examinations.
  • Ensure all the facilities essential for the conduct of Panel examinations are arranged in conjunction with other nursing staff, including ensuring examination rooms are cleared, examination beds and medical equipment are set-up ready for next appointment.
  • Prepare consent requests for further medical information including operations reports, clinical records, up-to-date reports, existing imaging and reports, MRI, CT scans, X-Rays, and blood tests. Follow up on requests to ensure information is received within a reasonable timeframe for Medical Panels review
  • Attend to a broad range of enquiries from stakeholders including injured workers/claimants, Courts, doctors and legal representatives while ensuring that all follow up activities are addressed in a timely manner and complex enquiries are referred to the most appropriate officer.

You are a dedicated and experienced nursing professional with a strong background in clinical care administration. You thrive in dynamic healthcare environment and skilled at balancing operational efficiency with compassionate, patient-centered care. 

 

You will also demonstrate the following skills & experience:

 

 

  • A minimum of 5 years’ working experience as a Registered Division 1 Nurse (Mandatory)
  • Must be able to commit to full-time hours of 8.30am-5pm Monday to Friday, from Melbourne location.
  • Experience working in a medical clinic, community nursing or hospital setting.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to provide high level administrative support services working within strict timeframes in a high volume work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise on a professional level with a diverse client group.
  • Ability to assess workload and re-prioritise potentially conflicting activities to achieve required business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing paper files in a complex operational environment.
