Title: Recreational Therapist PACE

 

Job Summary

Overseeing, planning, promoting engagement and recreational therapy for all participants.  Manages the daily planning and coordination of center and home-based activities.

 

Essential Job Functions

          Conducts initial assessment and scheduled reassessment of participants

          Facilitates the therapeutic recreation programs by assisting participants during group activities, following the activity schedule, and providing assistance with transportation for residents during recreation activities.

          Develops, schedules, and distributes specific therapeutic programs to include recreational and social activities

          Plans and facilitates the Participant Advisory Committee

          Plans and provides both group and individual programming

          Participates in interdisciplinary meetings and developing individualized and measurable care plans

          Assists with participant care needs

          Responsible for scheduling and supervising volunteers and stipend volunteers

          Manages participant tracking record

          Maintains inventory and order sheets for recreation and day center supplies

          Meets established department deadlines for recording documentation

          Completes other assignments as needed

          Ensures all regulatory requirements are followed

 

Job Requirements

 

Education:

          Bachelor’s degree in a social or health service field; or

          Associate degree in a related field plus 2 years of experience

 

Experience:

          2-4 years’ experience in recreational therapy with elderly population in a supervisory role; or bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation and 1-year experience with elderly

 

Licenses/Certifications:

          Certified Activity Director or Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist required

          Current Certification by the State of Florida as a Certified Nursing Assistant, preferred

          First Aid/CPR certification, or to be obtained within the first six months of hire

 

Abilities required

          Must be bilingual (English/Spanish or English/ Creole)

          Friendly, outgoing, positive personality

          Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of the work group, and participants

          Sensitivity to the needs of an aging population

          Computer knowledge

          Knowledge of documentation desirable

 

Functional Demands

 

Environment Work Conditions:

          Normal working condition with adequate lighting and ventilation

          Must be able to lift, push, pull two to sixty pounds

 

Infectious Material Exposure:

          Occasional exposure to blood/body fluids/tissues

          Participates in departmental activities, meetings and in-services and follows established guidelines
