About the Department

OUR POSITION
Under the supervision of the Crossing Guard Supervisor, this position will escort school children across streets; maintain order among children; and report suspicious persons who loiter near crossings, schools, and playgrounds. The position requires approximately four hours of work per day, divided into three shifts. An Alternate Crossing Guard is a temporary position and is not assigned a permanent post; the duties are otherwise the same.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Equivalent to completion of the eighth grade. Experience that would indicate the ability to deal with the general public, especially children.
ABOUT THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
The Public Works department is responsible for public works administration, city engineering, maintenance of public facilities located within the street right-of-way, design and construction of City-built capital improvements, and administration of traffic facilities, providing electric service to new development in residential, commercial and industrial areas, and related activities.
