Position Overview:
Bakery Barn is seeking an Automation Technician to join our Industrial Maintenance team. Candidates should have extensive mechanical maintenance experience and skills ranging from technical aptitude to problem solving and analytical expertise.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing automated equipment such as robots, PLCs, sensors, conveyors, and other automation systems that integrate with food manufacturing equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Follow all safety, food safety, and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) rules and requirements.
- Change over and set up equipment for changing production runs.
- Maintain automated equipment such as robotic systems, PLC-controlled devices, and sensors within the food manufacturing process.
- Diagnose and repair issues in automated systems including robotics, PLCs, CNC, VFD, VDC, 3-phase electrical systems, pneumatic systems, electric motors, date coders and liquid pumps, including pump rebuilds.
- Troubleshoot and correct errors with automated sequences, programming, or mechanical failures in robotic arms, conveyors, or auxiliary equipment. • Reduce machine downtime by promptly addressing automation-related production issues. • Read and understand electrical prints and symbols.
- Maintain machines, equipment, tools and work area in a clean and safe manner. • Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Over 5 years of mechanical maintenance experience, with a strong preference in the food industry.
- Highly proficient in mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic expertise.
- Effective communication of production impact, down time and suggested action needed for machine repairs.
- Experience with PLCs, complex equipment PM, and retrofitting OEM equipment.
- Ability to create, modify, and delegate PM tasks.
- Advanced understanding of electrical and circuit systems.
Education and Experience:
- Completion of related coursework at a vocational or community college, or equivalent experience, is required.

- Monday - Friday 4:00 AM to 12:30 PM EST
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None
General Safety:
- Must acknowledge these PPE requirements: hair net, beard net (if applicable), face shield and/or goggles, gloves, raincoat, protective toe (steel/composite) non-slip, oil resistant and electrical dissipating non-slip shoes/boots, and ear plugs.
- No jewelry can be worn.
- Non-slip, steel toed/composite toed shoes are required.
- Ensure all machine guards are in place.
- Responsible for understanding evacuation routes if necessary.
- Be aware of forklift traffic when walking through the production floor and warehouse.
- Be aware of safety signs (ex: stop signs, forklift traffic, pedestrian walkways) on the production floor.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods standing and walking.
- Able to bend at waist level, stretch, push, pull, kneel, climb, reach, including overhead work and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery, including working at heights and in small or enclosed workspaces when necessary to perform diagnostics, repairs or routine maintenance.
- Must have visual acuity and normal color vision.
- Ability to grip, grasp and in general use hand tools including fine manipulation.
- Ability to communicate with associates and managers, verbally and in writing and in using maintenance management software.
- Must be able to visually inspect machines.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Work environment may contain allergens including, but not limited to peanuts, tree nuts, milk, soy, eggs, wheat, and/or fish.
