Position Title: Your College Store (YCS) Assistant

Department/Unit: Your College Store (YCS)

Classification: Casual Hire less than 600 Hours per Fiscal Year

Status (exempt/non-exempt): non-exempt

Pay Rate:  $16.68 - $17.36 Per Hour

Reports to: Director of Business Services

Percentage: less than 50%


Annual/Academic year: Academic Year

This position is only working during the Fall, Winter and Spring Term, while school is in session.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Business Service and the guidance of the YCS Bookstore Clerk, the YCS Assistant will provide assistance to YCS staff with customer service, food preparation, cleaning and stocking.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greet Customers and take food orders
  • Use cash register to complete purchases
  • Prep food in compliance with Oregon Health Department regulations
  • Stock shelves, food and non-food items
  • Keep store front and kitchen clean

Miscellaneous

  • Participates in training, in-services and professional development 
  • Supports student success through participation in college activities.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned, that support the College’s mission.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have any supervisory responsibility but may lead the work of Student, Volunteer, and/or Temporary Staff assigned to the area.

Leading Work includes:

  • Train and orient new hires in position tasks.
  • Provide instructions on work tasks.
  • Offer guidance, encouragement, and answer questions to ensure work tasks are completed efficiently.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Ability to secure Oregon Food Handler card within the first 14 days of employment. OCCC will pay course and test fees.
  • 1 year of Customer Service experience 
  • 1 year of Food Service experience
  • A second language is helpful (Spanish) but not required

Working Environment & Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is: 

  • Frequently required to sit, stand, see and talk or hear. 
  • Often required to have mobility to move between offices, classrooms, and floors.
  • Use hands to finger, handle or operate computers, objects, tools or controls.
  • Reach with hands and arms. 
  • Light physical exertion with occasional, bending, stooping, pulling, and moderate lifting.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and have the ability to carry equipment and tools of moderate weight, using arms and hands. 
  • Specific vision and hearing abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus, and complete and maintain various types of records. 
  • Ability to hear the conversational voice and effectively communicate responses. 
  • Work occurs in an open environment with potential for interruptions and background noise.

Assignment may include presence at all primary OCCC locations and may include evening work. Travel between College sites and other locations may be required.
