The Lead Certified Peer Specialist (CPS Lead) provides direct support to the Certified Peer Specialist team while also serving as a liaison between Peer Support staff and CPS Supervisor(s). This role supports the coordination of peer-delivered services, assists in clinical and administrative functions, and ensures high-quality, recovery-oriented whole-person support for members. The CPS Lead serves as a mentor and role model for CPS staff and is responsible for helping guide and sustain peer engagement efforts across multiple service sites.

The required skills in human services and crisis intervention are essential for effectively supporting members in distressing situations.  Skills in motivational interviewing will be utilized to encourage members and staff to explore their goals and aspirations, enhancing their engagement in the recovery process. Additionally, knowledge of addiction recovery will inform the development of tailored strategies that address the unique challenges faced by members. Preferred skills in social services and child welfare will further enrich the support provided, ensuring a holistic approach to member care.

 

Essential Functions

  • Support CPS Supervisors by providing leadership and day-to-day oversight of CPS team operation(s).
  • Serve as backup representation in meetings, trainings, and stakeholder presentations when CPS Supervisor is unavailable.
  • Provide coverage and/or help arrange coverage when team members are absent.
  • Conduct field-based supervision check-ins and peer shadowing for CPS staff to promote ongoing development and fidelity to peer support principles.
  • Coordinate scheduling, task delegation, and daily check-ins with CPS team members.
  • Facilitate bi-weekly peer team meetings and assist in onboarding and orientation for new CPS staff.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Care Managers and interdisciplinary teams to support member engagement and care coordination.
  • Apply motivational interviewing and recovery tools such as WRAP to support member readiness for services.
  • Ensure documentation and follow-up standards are met across the CPS team by reviewing logs and member interactions.
  • Assist with performance monitoring and team development through regular feedback and collaboration with supervisors.
  • Maintain working knowledge of resources related to housing, behavioral health, physical health, and social services.
  • Support with Integrated Care Plan (ICP) consent collection and member engagement

 

Position Requirements: 

  • Education: High School Diploma/GED preferred
  • License/Certification: 
    • Completion and certification through Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual DisAbility Services Certified Peer Specialist/Certified Recovery Specialist training curriculum.
    • PA Child Abuse Clearance required
  • Community Based/Clinic Setting experience. 
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to travel throughout Philadelphia, navigation of public transportation system
  • Works directly with members and their natural supports in the community during 60-85% of work hours or 10-15 days per month. 

 

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of direct service experience in a peer support role.
  • Experience in leading teams, training, or providing supervisory support preferred.
  • Familiarity with behavioral health systems and community-based services in Philadelphia.

 

Skills:

  • Familiar with services for adults and children in the managed care system of Philadelphia
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and able to type 20 words per minute
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a high-volume environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Compliant with HIPAA regulations

 

Work Conditions (including travel, overtime required, physical requirements and occupational exposure): 

  • Must be able to travel within Philadelphia and surrounding counties.
  • Regularly requires walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, reaching, pushing, pulling and/or repetitive wrist/hand movements for various lengths of time throughout the day.
  • Ability to utilize computers and office equipment to complete daily work responsibilities.
  • Regularly works inside in areas that are adequately lighted and ventilated.  Some fluctuation in temperature. No protective equipment routinely needed.
  • Must be able to adapt to continuous changes/demands of the job.

 

Philadelphia Residency Requirement:

  • The successful candidate must be a current Philadelphia resident or become a resident within six months of hire.
