BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

Must be a Christian who is a member of a church that holds Jesus Christ to be their Lord and Savior, and who holds sole the Old Testament and the New Testament as sacred Scriptures.

Must be an active member of a local Baptist Church.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s or master’s in education preferred.
  2. Successful experience as a teacher and/or a principal in public/private school preferred.
  3. Excellent People Skills (outgoing, relationship builder, etc.)
  4. Experience with Data Processing Systems, and willingness to learn state and national accountability systems.
  5. Have contact with local school districts preferred.
  6. Adhere to the Texas Educator Code of Ethics.
  7. Be an advocate of public and private education.

BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Collaborate with College of Education (COE) faculty and staff members to advance the mission of the Dallas Baptist University and the mission of the Dorothy M. Bush College of Education.
  2. Work with undergraduate, graduate, and post-baccalaureate staff members to assure that the undergraduate teacher candidate program exceeds the requirements set forth by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
  3. Work with graduate and doctoral faculty members to assure post-baccalaureate and degree certification students and programs exceed the requirements set forth by the TEA.
  4. Keep abreast of what is happening at the state and national level and in local school districts and work with program directors to integrate current information into policy and/or course work as appropriate.
  5. Maintain 40 hours per week for advising, consulting, and mentoring students, as well as working with COE faculty, staff, and certification program requirements.
  6. Gather and analyze data for program improvement.
  7. Maintain membership in professional organizations related to the job assignment.
  8. Serve on the Association for the Advancement of Quality Educator Preparation (AAQEP) Council and perform requested duties as related to the work of the council.
  9. Assist with planning and implementing professional development workshops and events for teacher candidates, advanced certification candidates, and COE faculty / staff.
  10. Assist the undergraduate program director / Field Placement Supervisor with planning and implementing Field-Based and Clinical Orientations.
  11. Assist with data gathering, analysis, and/or the completion of reports required of the College of Education, such as AAQEP, National Council for Teacher Quality (NCTQ), Annual Reports, ASEP, TEA, U.S. News and World Report, etc.
  12. Complete references for teacher candidates as requested.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  1. Certification Officer
    • Inform all undergraduate candidates of the Educator Preparation Program (EPP) and certification requirements.
    • Coordinate the EPP Initial Teacher Certification Committee admittance process, by collecting data, creating an admittance report, scheduling committee meetings (3 times per year minimum), reviewing the data with committee members, recording the recommendations, and reporting admitted candidates to the TEA.
    • Work with Undergraduate and graduate program directors to ensure candidates are meeting certification requirements.
    • Collect documents (Teacher Service Records, etc.) from professional candidates necessary for certification.
    • Update Certification Status Roster frequently.
    • Prepare an annual report for TEA collecting GPA, SAT, ACT, and PACT scores, etc. for all candidates entering the program (For EC – 6 must report GPA for each content field).
    • Prepare an annual “Applied, Admitted, Retained” report for TEA.
    • Process each initial and advanced certification candidate finishing (graduating) a program for certification.
    • Document for TEA frequency and amount of time professors and cooperating teachers evaluate student teachers. Clinical Interns and requested data must be entered in the Texas Accountability System for Educator Preparation (ASEP).
    • Collaborate with the COE faculty and staff regarding the TEA 5-year annual accreditation audit, specifically by reviewing files, gathering data, and organizing information to assist the initial and advanced certification program directors and TEA audit committee.
    • Maintain and organize undergraduate initial teacher certification required / auditable paperwork and files for TEA audit purposes.
    • Other duties regarding TEA and Texas certification as needed or assigned.
  1. Undergraduate Advisor
    • Advise new and returning students regarding course selection and semester course load.
    • Assist with advising College of Education students including registration, follow-up, and interviewing teacher candidates requesting admittance to the certification program.
    • Ensure students are progressing according to the degree evaluation and Educator Preparation Program Requirements.
    • Meet with prospective students and parents to discuss DBU, the COE, and program of interest.
    • Gather and coordinate data and information to meet with the Initial Certification Undergraduate Team concerning annual scholarship awards.
  1. Enrollment and retention activities include:
    • Answer questions and initiate regular communication with students.
    • Help resolve problems.
    • Update and recommend degree plans for programs to meet state and national standards.
    • Participate in special enrollment events as necessary, such as Patriot Preview, New Patriot Orientation, Recruitment events, etc.
    • Assist the Associate Dean/Undergraduate and Master of Education in Teaching (MEDT) Program Directors to develop class schedules with careful consideration given to DBU’s scheduling policies, course rotations and student degree evaluation needs.

WORK SCHEDULE:

This is a full-time position with regular office hours between 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday.

WORK LOCATION:

This position will work on the main campus, located at 3000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211
