We're seeking a skilled and reliable Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to support our outpatient clinical lab. This Monday through Friday, day shift position offers the opportunity to perform essential diagnostic testing in a collaborative, well-organized environment alongside a dedicated team.
What You'll Do
- Perform diagnostic laboratory procedures manually and using specialized laboratory equipment in all areas of the laboratory including chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, and serology.
- Recognize critical results and report same to the ordering on-call physician.
- Maintain accuracy in specimen handling, testing, and result reporting.
- Monitor and document quality control procedures and participate in proficiency testing.
- Prepare the required reagents.
- Occasionally take part in surveys by evaluating unknown materials.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, troubleshooting minor issues as needed.
- Occasionally assist in training new employees and students.
- Assist phlebotomy with technical questions and reception duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Typical Working Conditions
- Laboratory-based position with frequent patient contact for specimen collection.
- Regular exposure to needles, body fluids, and potentially infectious materials.
- Possible exposure to hazardous chemicals and laboratory equipment.
Requirements
What You Bring
- Associates degree in Clinical Laboratory Science
- Ability to work independently and follow established lab procedures and policies.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy, especially in specimen labeling and result reporting.
- Sound judgement when balancing cost-efficiency with high quality care.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with providers, team members, and external contacts.
- Commitment to customer service and a patient-first mindset.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to communicate clearly in person, over the phone, and in writing.
- Visual acuity adequate to read printed materials and computer screens.
- Occasional lifting and carrying of items up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent bending, reaching, standing, walking, and repetitive hand movements.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and work under potentially stressful conditions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and familiarity with practice management and laboratory information systems.
