In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:
Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.
Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.
A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.
Federal Work Study student may apply.
In good disciplinary standing.
Must be located in the U.S.

ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:The Loop Lab is a Boston-based nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering underrepresented individuals, especially BIPOC youth, through media arts training and workforce development. Our mission is to provide access to careers in the creative economy by offering high-quality training in audio-video production, podcasting, and related media arts, with a strong emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Music/Audio Mentor will work closely with students enrolled in our TechBoston Academy program, providing guidance and instruction in music production and audio engineering. The mentor will support students in developing their technical skills, and creative abilities while also serving as a role model and advocate for their personal and professional growth.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with students in a class room setting to teach the fundamentals of music production and audio.
- Assist students with hands-on projects, including recording, podcasting, and producing music and audio content.
- Offer mentorship and support to students, helping them to navigate both academic and non-academic challenges.
- Collaborate with the program’s on-site supervisor, Matt Feener, to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Provide feedback on student work and help to prepare them for presentations or performances.
- Ensure a positive and inclusive learning environment, fostering creativity and innovation.
- Participate in regular meetings with the Berklee Supervisor and other program staff to discuss student progress and program development.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a background in audio production, audio engineering, or a related field.
- Preferred experience or interest with working with high school students, preferably in an urban educational setting.
- A passion for mentoring and supporting the growth of young creatives.
- Ability to work collaboratively with program staff and adapt to the needs of a diverse student body.
- Knowledge of audio production software and equipment.
- Commitment to the mission of The Loop Lab and fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the creative economy.
