Hours: 8:00 - 5:00 Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week 

Pay Range: $28.00 - $30.00

The Public Health Nurse provides comprehensive primary care to patients of all ages, often working in clinics. The role will encompass patient assessment, medication administration, monitoring, vaccination, procedure assistance, and health education. The PHN will document patient information accurately and may engage in health promotion and prevention activities. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Perform routine patient assessments, including taking vital signs, completing medical history, assessing condition, medication education 
  • Assist with telephone and walk in triage of patients with questions and concerns
  • Order labs, diagnostic tests, clinical tests 
  • Document in the electronic health record 
  • Administer medications, vaccinations and treatments
  • Patient chart preparation
  • Flexible with work hours to cover the needs of clinic

Education/Experience: Graduation from an accredited nursing school, BSN preferred. Must have one year of nursing experience. Experience in an office setting preferred. Fluency in English and Spanish preferred

License: Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina. Must also have a current, valid North Carolina driver's license. Must complete the introduction to Public Health Credential course within the first year of employment. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • General knowledge of and skill in the application of nursing theory, practices, principles, and techniques employed in public health and related programs 
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply principles of public health, working knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to healthcare 
  • Working knowledge of available resources for patient population 
  • Ability to deal tactfully with others, and to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions
  • Must be able to secure the cooperation of clients, elicit needed information, and maintain effective working relationships
  • Accurately record services rendered and interpret and explain records
