WHY THE FLATIRON HOTEL

The 71 room Flat Iron Hotel is an adaptive re-use of Asheville, North Carolina’s iconic, downtown landmark, the Flat Iron building which was erected in 1927. The new hotel within the historic Flat Iron will also include a restaurant/cafe, rooftop, speakeasy, banquet space, and shared work space.


THE ROLE

 As the Elevator Operator, you will be the first impression many of our guests have upon arrival. Stationed inside the elevator, you will manually operate the lift while also providing warm, attentive hospitality that reflects the charm and history of our property. In addition to safely escorting guests to their floors, you’ll share knowledge of the hotel, its history, and the surrounding area, ensuring every ride feels personal and memorable.

This role also includes light bellman responsibilities, assisting with luggage and supporting the front-of-house team when needed. The ideal candidate is energetic, kind, service-oriented, and able to stand for the duration of their shift while maintaining a welcoming presence.


Responsibilities:

  

  • Safely and skillfully operate the elevator, manually controlling its movement between floors.
  • Greet all guests warmly upon entry, offering assistance and conversation to enhance their experience.
  • Share hotel history, property highlights, and local knowledge in an engaging and informative way.
  • Provide directions or recommendations to nearby attractions, restaurants, and amenities.
  • Ensure the elevator remains clean, orderly, and inviting at all times.
  • Assist guests with luggage, packages, and other belongings as needed.
  • Deliver items to guest rooms upon request (e.g., amenities, packages, messages).
  • Support the bell and front desk teams during peak arrival and departure times.
  • Coordinate with guest services and housekeeping to ensure seamless guest experiences
  • Maintain guest safety during elevator operations, ensuring proper use at all times.
  • Report any maintenance issues or malfunctions to engineering or management immediately.
  • Uphold all hotel service standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Represent The Indigo Road brand with professionalism, warmth, and hospitality.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  

  • Prior customer service or hospitality experience preferred, but not required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a natural ability to connect with guests
  • Interest in and willingness to learn the hotel’s history and share it with guests
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform light physical tasks (such as lifting luggage)
  • Friendly, energetic, and professional demeanor
  • Must be effective at listening, understanding, clarifying, and resolving the concerns and  issues raised by co-workers and guests.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays
