Job Description: Legal Clerk
Position Title: Legal Clerk
Location: U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Colorado – Denver, CO
Position Summary
The Legal Clerk provides clerical and administrative support to the U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) for the Witness Management Program. This role ensures the efficient coordination of fact witness appearances, travel, and reimbursements while supporting Victim-Witness personnel, AUSAs, and other USAO staff. The Legal Clerk plays a critical role in helping witnesses navigate the judicial process and ensuring compliance with Department of Justice procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Provide assistance to fact witnesses before, during, and after trial, including appearance coordination and courtroom orientation.
Communicate directly with witnesses regarding travel arrangements, scheduling, reimbursements, and special circumstances.
Receive and respond to inquiries from witnesses regarding court appearances, pre-trial conferences, grand jury proceedings, and payment processes.
Arrange witness travel and lodging in compliance with DOJ and USAO guidelines.
Prepare and process witness reimbursement vouchers and related documentation; reconcile government travel accounts.
Coordinate with AUSAs, courts, U.S. Marshals, investigative agencies, and other entities as needed.
Maintain and organize witness files, databases, and records in accordance with DOJ policies.
Draft correspondence, reports, and documentation requiring knowledge of legal terminology and procedures.
Track hearings, trial dates, and scheduling conferences to ensure accurate witness management.
Prepare weekly activity reports detailing completed tasks and program-related activities.
Uphold strict confidentiality and compliance with DOJ ethics, conduct, and security requirements.
Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma required; undergraduate degree preferred.
Experience & Skills:
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Proficiency in word processing, data entry, and database management.
Ability to review, analyze, and compile data from multiple sources.
Skilled in preparing and formatting reports, correspondence, and case-related documents.
Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and accuracy.
Knowledge of legal procedures, terminology, and witness management preferred.
Additional Requirements:
Must be a U.S. citizen and meet DOJ residency requirements.
Must successfully complete background clearance requirements.
Ability to deliver high-quality work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Must complete DOJ ethics and confidentiality training upon hire.
