The Department of Engineering and Society is seeking a detail-oriented and responsible student who can work independently and has proficient communication skills in written and spoken English. He/she will be responsible for compiling, classifying, tabulating, and recording data collected from websites, reports, and government documents.
Student Research Assistant
The Student Research Assistant will aid in the analysis of research material and data and will assist in the writing and editing of research reports, papers, and articles targeting a general audience. The researcher will focus on biological conservation of migratory birds and the organizations that support conservation efforts in three localities: Eastern Virginia, Coastal California, and New Zealand.
The student will work with a research team led by Associate Professor Foley and is part of a project funded by the Environmental Institute. The successful candidate must be able to work collaboratively, be responsible, independent, and reliable, with great attention to detail. Must be able to work well in a team environment, manage concurrent projects, and consistently respect deadlines. Solid computer skills are required.
The pay rate will follow the established schedule by the Human Resources department and is set at $15/hour for 10 hours/week. Work-study students are encouraged to apply. Students need to be eligible to work at least 5 hours per week and not more than 10 hours. The applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 and be enrolled in at least 6 credits this semester.
Undergraduate engineering students with majors in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, and other related degree programs are encouraged to apply. A complete application includes a one-page cover letter and resume.
