In October 2021, we launched our new ‘Food Club & Opportunity Hub’ to expand efficient, impactful healthy food assistance with the on-site integration of other pathway programs. More recently, we announced a partnership with Dwelling Place to help address the affordable housing crisis here in Holland. In July 2023, we publicly launched our expansion of Lakeshore Food Rescue (www.lakeshorefoodrescue.org).

Position Details
Position Type: Part-time, Internship, 10-15 hours/week

Position Term: October 2025 - January 2026, open to time off during the holiday season, potentially aligning with school breaks
Compensation & Benefits: $12.48 hourly
Summary
The Communications Intern supports key storytelling and outreach efforts that help advance Community Action House’s mission and connect with our broader community. This role involves drafting various forms of content, while helping maintain a consistent voice and visual identity across platforms. The Communications Intern will assist in planning communications around the Resale Store launch, contribute to content calendar development, and support the creation of on-brand graphics and campaign materials. This position offers hands-on experience in nonprofit communications and works closely with the Communications Team to build awareness and engagement.
Responsibilities & Essential Duties
Support Resale Store Launch
Help create a content calendar specific to the Resale Store.
Draft press releases and promotional materials related to the store opening.
Capture and edit content that highlights store items, volunteer stories, and Resale Store connection to Action House programs.
Content Creation
Draft and edit press releases, blogs, guest stories, and newsletter content that reflects Community Action House’s voice and values.
Assist in creating engaging content for social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn).
Support the development of eNewsletters and email campaigns.
Assist in the design and creation of communication materials in line with the organization's visual branding.
General Communications Support
Participate in brainstorming sessions, team meetings, and Communications Calendar planning.
Help track analytics for social and email engagement to assess impact and optimize future content.
Provide support as needed for fundraising campaigns and donor events.
Other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received
Specific Direction: Receives detailed work instructions or guidance for performing repetitive tasks. Supervisor monitors progress and provides feedback or correction as needed to ensure that tasks are completed according to expectations.
Education & Experience
High School Diploma required. Some college preferred.
Bilingual Spanish proficiency preferred
Qualifications
Ability to write clearly, concisely, and in a compelling voice tailored for different audiences and platforms.
Experience in creating both long-form content (blogs, press releases) and concise, compelling short-form content for social media.
Experience in graphic design.
Access to consistent and reliable transportation to travel between locations
Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
Willingness and interest in continuous learning and adaptation based on your professional interests and organizational needs.
A high standard of performance and integrity, and ability to lead by example to foster a positive workplace culture.
Proficiency in clear and effective written and verbal communication, and ability to develop trusting professional relationships.
