NWROCU are seeking proactive individuals to join our dedicated team of Targeted Interception case officers. Within the framework of the Investigatory Powers Act 2016, Targeted Interception case officers review and assess communications on tasked operations to understand the methodologies used by Organised Crime Groups, identify threats and provide relevant intelligence to support operational deployments and decision making. 

Working collaboratively with the National Crime Agency, NWROCU Sensitive Intelligence Unit, covert investigations teams, other intelligence departments and broader law enforcement partners, Targeted Interception helps deliver an effective response to lead the UK's response to tacking Serious and Organised Crime. 

Following full training, the ideal candidate will be able to identify and disseminate relevant intelligence to support operational decision making, and make time critical, dynamic decisions and risk assessments in response to immediate events. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a basic knowledge and understanding of the Investigatory Powers Act (IPA), the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR), and Data Protection.

Main responsibilities: 

  1. Disseminate intelligence in support of tasked operations in accordance with relevant legislation, safeguards, and standard operating procedures.
  2. Attend relevant operational briefings and reviews in support of stated objectives.
  3. Prepare accurate and timely intelligence logs and summaries using available intelligence systems.
  4. Ensure effective handovers to colleagues.
  5. Prepare and submit applications for relevant authorities under IPA.
  6. Build good working relationships with both internal and external partners including police forces and the National Crime Agency.
  7. Identify, prioritise and manage threat and risk in accordance with legislation, policy and standard operating procedures.

 

The NWROCU leads the policing response across the region posed by serious and organised crime in Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire, Greater Manchester and North Wales. The NWROCU provides the vital link from national capabilities and expertise to local policing and knowledge, enabling the North West region to deliver the Government’s Serious and Organised Crime strategy and to protect communities from harm.

The post is subject to an initial secondment of two years and reviewable thereafter. 

The post is created to support the transfer of business from the North West Forces to NWROCU and was agreed by COG.  It is separate from other secondment opportunities and will be supported by your Force.

Successful applicants working within NWROCU will be subject to MV (Management Vetting) and enhanced SC Vetting prior to taking up post.  

This is a full time role working a shift pattern including working one weekend in four. The core hours covered will be 0600 – 1400hrs / 1400 - 2200hrs Monday – Friday, and 0800 – 1600hrs Saturday and Sunday. 

The role is based in Warrington. In cases where the commute to work is in excess of applicant’s current commute the excess travel will be paid.
